help with edge 540

i need help with a aeroworks 60/90 edge 540 i have just bought it and know i read the threads about it, how convienient, well i need to know how a moki 1.35 or a moki 1.80 will do on this plane and if the 1.80 will even mount on it.

Thank you malin

Both of those motors are too big for it.

I flew mine with a .91 2 cycle and it was good.

Heavier motors will kill the intended performance of this plane.

so a saito 91 will pull out of a hover with no problems?

Mine was a .91 two stroke. It would hover it fine but the pull outs werent rocket like.
I lived with that over putting a bigger motor in it and making the overall plane heavier.

I dont know about using the .91 Saito. I dont think it would be any better than the 2 stroke I had in mine.

not to overmind you i am new and am verry interested in learning i looked at some specs for the moki's and the 1.35 weighs only 30.5 oz. but seems by the numbers that it would pull out alot better than my saito.

Do you have any ideas of motors that would give me a little more pull out than the 91's i just dont want to take any chances.

Malin,

Sure a 1.35 would pull it out if a hover much better than .91 would. But,

You have to keep in mind that adding extra weight on a small plane increases the wing loading. Meaning the wing has to lift more.
This plane was desinged to be a good 3D / aerobatic plane in a smaller package then whats generally available.
Higher wing loading means the plane will stall faster, land faster and generally just not fly as good if it was lighter.

If all your looking to do is hover, stick a huge motor in it and go have fun but I dont think you'd like how it flew doing anything else.

When this plane first came out I heard people complaining that it flew like CR*P. Then I found out they were sticking huge motors in it and the weight on their planes was around 11 pounds. Way too much for a plane that size.

Mine weighed less than 8 RTF.

It really depends on what you want to do with it. I was OK with the slower pull outs because it did everything else well.

thank you thank you thank you

i really apriciate it i only have one more question how did you get your weight down to 8lbs all other threads have read that it comes out of the box at 9.5-10 lbs. did you do anything or did these people put monster engines on them to get that weight.

malin

and thank you again for the help

All I did was put it together.

Some guys were making the process of assembling that ARF way too complicated. Elevator bellcranks etc.

I had my elev servos in the tail and the rudder on a pull pull.

Easy.
