Retract Servo Question

I thought a retract servo rotated 180 degrees. Mine only seems to rotate about 160-170 degrees. Is that normal?

RE: Retract Servo Question

It could be normal depending on the model of the servo and settings within the TX.

What servo do you have?

Futaba, Can I change the endpoint settings for the servo? I have a Futaba 9C transmitter.

RE: Retract Servo Question

Any particular Futaba servo? A model number would be nice.

Check your manual for the 9C, you may be able to adjust it. I don't know if it matters but is the 9C a regular or a Super?

RE: Retract Servo Question

I found the following in the 9C Super manual

Retract servos are NOT proportional. Changing END POINT will NOT adjust the servo throw.

pg 32 of the manual.

You are actually much better off with 160 - 170 degrees of travel. Otherwise (With 180ยบ) you need to arrange your travel so the pushrods don't hit each other. To do that, they must go past the farthest point and return slightly so they don't hit each other when they are in the opposite postion.

Maybe servo manufacturers are finally starting to realize that.

RE: Retract Servo Question

I might be better off, but I had already set up the linkages for 180 degrees. Oh well just something else on this plane I have to redo. So it is not an issue that the retract only goes 160-170 even though in the Futaba literature it is a 180 degree retract servo?

Personally, I wouldn't worry, but then, I'm half crazy :D

If you're concerned, contact Futaba

You're getting better then!! I guess the treatments are working!! ;)

And since when are YOU in a place to make sanity judgements Ken? Hmmmmm?[sm=bananahead.gif]

You're going to redo, for six percent? That's sixty thousandths difference for a one inch travel. I wouldn't think you'd have to adjust the servo arm radius at all. None of my mechanical retracts would require that, and the air retract switch links I use wouldn't be that sensitive either.
