I'm a newbie and of course I have questions. I have a Goldberg Eagle2 .40 size and I have a Lanier Indicator .049 size with throttle. Which would be the better plane to learn to fly on?

Go with the Eagle II. Bigger is always better. The bigger trainer is going to fly smoother than the little one.

I agree, 1/2A stuff is neat but a nice .40 or .60 trainer is probably more appropriate as a starter plane.

This is painless. The Eagle is the logical choice hands down. The size lends it's self to being seen and being able to make slow easy flights, desired by all students at least at first.
Small planes require you keep them fairly close to see them and control them. Were I teaching you I would insist on the Eagle given the choices. Also small planes , small servos, etc., none any less expensive than standard servos, savings would be minimal.
I don't even know what an Indicator is but if it calls for an .049 it's to small for a good trainer, period.
Use a good BB 46 on the Eagle.:D

No doubt about it - the Eagle is the only choice for learning with between the 2.

Also be sure to get proper instructional help. PLEASE don't try to do this on your own.

For sure the Eagle2!! Then add either an OS 46AX or thunder Tiger Pro 46 engine with an Master Airscrew 11-5 prop and you have a great start. [8D]

This is an older model. It's fully assembled but needs a few repairs. It has a Super Tigre .40 and a Futaba Conquest radio. I need to replace all the batteries. What's a good source for batteries?

Sounds like you are well on your way !!!!!!! This set up will work just fine as long as the engine is in decent shape.

Save the Indicator for after you learn to fly the Eagle, then you will understand why they all suggested the Eagle first. Adrenaline, Adrenaline, adrenaline. ENJOY !!! RED

I've run the engine on a test stand. It seems to run well. Just need to make some adjustments on the carb, the moving prop scares me a little.

GOOD, keep that attitude and keep your fingers. That thing is a meat slicer and deserves ALL the respect you can muster.

So true. Sticking your fingers in that meat slicer accounts for 90% of the stiches received by us airplane nuts.

I run my Eagle II with an OS 40 LA and it flies very well.
There is no need to change your engine as long as the one you have runs well and is reliable.
