K&B engine
Max:
I had a caller a few months ago, he looked at my old K&Bs, and made an offer I didn't want to refuse. He left me with three green heads, an 09, a 19, and a 45 stunt with the rear rotor. and he didn't take my Series 61 35 either. Said I had flown it too much, he didn't think he could pass it off as new. Just kidding - the 35 has been thoroughly cleaned up internally, the intake is hogged out, and it has a Dooling needle and jet assembly in it - too much mod for a collecter. And the 45 has some scratches and nicks in the paint. Don't know why he didn't want the 09 - it still looks new. But no, I've never had one light off just by connecting the glow driver, I'll have to try it. Done the spinner back flip start many times, though. I was amazed the first time it worked for me. Good Ol' K&B Boys. Let's see. Nope. On the single engined planes I don't qualify - only three have K&B. But twins? Different thing. Except for the very first two they are ALL powered with K&B. And I think I've got a pretty good excuse for the first two - number one has 1/2A engines on it, and when I put #2 together I was dealing exclusively with my LHS, he didn't carry K&B. I did have him order me a set of 40s (4011) for twin #3, a Duellist. Before it was finished I had gotten a pair of Q40s, the 8360 with Perry pump and carb, they went on it. Later sold the plane, kept the engines. And the 4011S are still NIB. I have four brand new K&B engines packed up to go off to Clarence Lee tomorrow, two 40s (the ones I got for Duellist #1) and two 61s. The 40s will go in Duellist #3, the 61s will go in the Super Duellist, and that same pair of Q40s is going in my latest F7F. Just got an aceptance notice, I now have three more 61s on the way. That will give me a total of nine 61s. Have to admit a little backsliding, I have two small twins in the works, one is slated to get a pair of OS Max III 15 RC engines that are still NIB, and they're over 30 years old. That's unless someone makes an offer for them that I don't want to refuse. And I've ordered a pair of Hirtenberger (HB) 21s for the other. Grman built HBs, I will add. I've run on too long. Bill. |
