Greasers vs. electric
Apologize that this has been discussed before.
Here's why I like glow vs. electric: 1) The same reason people like to go watch a NASCAR or IRL or CART race... the sound, the horsepower. 2)The challenge of getting a glow engine tuned and humming. 3) The wonderful kind-of-sweet smell of nitro exhaust that takes me back to my teenage years flying hard-to-start U-control planes. 4) Cheaper all-around vs. electric (as far as I can see). 5)The perhaps unpredictabilty of the fuel systems, etc., (which may lead to deadsticks, etc) which IMHO add to the challenge and enjoyment. (6-99): Please chime in if you agree or disagree. |

6. I love the way Simple Green (I use it to clean the plane) makes my car smell on the way home from the field! :D

I agree with both of you in many ways...
But still it is kinda neat just to toss a plane charger and radio in the car to go fly. No flight box, fuel, starter, glow stick, no noise, quick, easy and low stress. I have both and they both have their advantages... |

May I make one suggestion? I am a very old time person and not very prudent with my language sometimes. My suggestion, in this day and time, is that you just possibly consider changing that term "Greasers" to "Slimys." I recently really embarrassed myself and I did not at all wish to do so. Git muh drift thar', Ol' Pard? |

Perhaps anyone offended by the use of the label greaser should go talk to Al and Jessie. I'm sure they can take up your cause and help get mbilar1 fired from forum posting. :D:D:D

This comes up so often that I have a stock answer for it:
Well, here we are in the 21st century and some people still ride horses, shoot rifles that you load by pouring gunpowder down the barrel, hunt with bows and arrows, sail wooden boats powered by wind, write with fountain pens, keep old steam trains running, and even fly control line and free flight model airplanes. My bold prediction is that decades from now, people will still be doing all these things in addition to flying "traditional" RC planes built from balsa and powered by glow engines. Why? Because this is a hobby! Because the scent of burning castor oil is perfume to their noses and the sound is music to their ears. Because they simply love glow engines! And I say, more power to them! It's their hobby, let them enjoy it! |

Yup I`m a Greaser. My wife judges how much fun I had at the field , by how dirty I am when I come home. lol
She also says if I have grass stains on my knees, it usually means engine problems. It takes 5 min. tops , to wipe a plane down at the end of the day. and I don`t mind a bit , |

Cleaning a plane at the end of the day give you a chance to perform something else that EVERY pilot should do regardless of the type of plane they fly, and that is inspect your plane. I can't even begin to count how many people I see just throw the plane in the car and head for home, and the next trip to the field they pull it out and fly without every inspecting it. Then when the plane crashes they can't figure out why. It's because they didn't find something that should have been repaired before they flew, and that broke and caused the plane to crash. When you spend the time to clean your planes at the end of the day take a few extra moments to inspect everything to see if it's still in good shape. Electric pilots should inspect their planes as all well.

Very true Ken. I go over my planes pretty good after a hard day of flying, and usually find something that needs attention. Especially if I`ve had a hard landing or 2.

Ken It's just like modern cars, they have become so reliable that we jump into them for long trips without so much as checking the oil or tire pressure. Since flying electric, I have started to keep a log of my flights and which battery was used for that flight. That way in the future when someone asks me how many cycles a battery lasts, I can do more than just give them my best guess. |

2fast - ever tried the nice scent they sell for glow engines in the RC car scene? Hehehehee ... they may have Channel No. 5 ... then you will really be in trouble when you get home!!!
BLE - the horse has resurrected!!! LOL Tukkus - its about some groups (EP or GLOW) DEFENDING their preferrences too much ... its a hobby as long as you are happy why not? In the UK you sill have the indoor free flight guys ... then you have the Control Line guys too ... |

I personally am not offended by these terms, although I dissuade their use. Because I know that many electric plane flyers use these terms on purpose to be derogatory and inflammatory.
