My First Balsa Build
 

I have a Hobbico Superstar trainer that i got last year from our next door nabor that flys. It was all put together and my dad put in most of the radio and engen.
I want to get an easy kit to build for my first build. It seems like kits are a lot cheeper, so i want to learn how to build them. Anyone got any good ideas?

Where are you as far as flying skills go? Be honest here. If you are still in the trainer stage, take a look at the Sig Kadet LT-40 or Great Planes PT-40/PT-60. If you are ready for a low wing trainer, check out the Sig Four Star Series, Great Planes Rapture and Goldberg Tiger-2. All of these should be good for a first build. Building is a blast if you are inclined to do that sort of activity to begin with. You'll really enjoy it. You mentioned kits being cheaper though; I disagree with that. They generally are no cheaper than ARF's and often more expensive. By the time you buy glue, wheels, covering and so on, the price adds up quick. That's no reason not to build though. Building is something you do for your personal enjoyment. Try it, you might just get hooked.

Only suggestion I can think of for you would be to build a trainer.

Then again you said you already have a trainer so you may not be interested in getting another, You can also look at the Sig Four Star, I have a 4* 60 but I have'nt started it yet. I have read alot here on RCU that it is an easy kit to build for begginer kit builders and the manual is very easy to comprehend, just like the manual for the LT-40 I built.

Just a few suggestions.

EDIT: ChuckW is right about the kit price range, My LT-40 kit and everything to finish it totaled over $500... but then again, I added a couple non-essentials.

If you have a trainer already, I would recommend build an low wing for your next plane. A sig 4 Star builds easily.

You could also look at the Mid Star for the same price. The kit comes so that you can start flying the plane as a trike gear and then convert to a tail dragger later if you want.
