RE: Modelers and cats
I love cats. I just hate it when they pee on my stuff. I currently have a golden retriever.

RE: Modelers and cats
ORIGINAL: plugin I have the feeling that us modelers have the tendency to be cat owners.<<snip>> That, I sort of understand - though I have no idea how to test the merits of the idea. I have no idea why you would draw any connection between modeling or flying and pet ownership. Would you care to elaborate? Best wishes, Dave Olson |
RE: Modelers and cats
I think he was just saying that there alot of pics on RCU with cats in them more than dogs, and was wondering if modelers are more cat people than another animal. I guess thats what he was asking or stating.....
Chris Oh and I love cats I have a fat white one that like to lay right in the middle of whatever I am working on, and she drools first cat I have ever known to drool and not a little when you pet her its a steady stream |
RE: Modelers and cats
Scar,
IMO I think that cats usually are linked to calmer people (Also elder women and the unemployed :D). Usually modelers are calm thorough people who wont mind spending 10+ hrs in the shop just trimming balsa sheeting on a custom cowling. This way I figured that maybe modelers where more prone to be cat people. I'm certainly one of them. Nothing against dogs, I like them too. I just don't care for dog smell. |

All I know is that cats make lousy passengers in 1/4 scale aerobat planes!!!! [:@]
Of course I am just kidding here. While I'm not a cat person I do understand that others love them. We are dog people in our family. Right now we have a 5 year old border collie that runs our lives. She's very well trained, she has us doing exactly what she wants us to do!!!!! :D:D Ken |

ORIGINAL: somegeek We have a single pet at the moment, our cat, Dexter. Cept when he's in trouble then my wife calls it my cat... http://somegeek.home.comcast.net/flyin_dexter.jpg somegeek If it wasn't obvious that was a telescope in the background, I would think it was some sort of "cat cannon" that launches cats. :D For me, two beagles, two salamanders and a hamster. No cats at present. -Scott |
RE: Modelers and cats
No pets. I'm away from the house too much; it would be unfair to an animal to leave it cooped up for too long.

RE: Modelers and cats
One little cat (14lbs) and he isnt fat. The other thing about him is he likes kit built planes more than arfs. The reason behind that is when i kit build he ends up with all the balsa curls to play with from the razor plane.:)

RE: Modelers and cats
2 cats live with my wife and I. We adopted one from a shelter, the other one was a three week old kitten abandoned, literally, in the middle of the road. Someone dumped three kittens in a sack on a traffic island. If I could get my hands on that person......anyway the other two kittens from that litter live with my in-laws. And I have a cranky old orange tabby from my college days, but he still lives at my parent's house--he's a farm cat at heart, and I can't move him into the middle of town. Cats are great because they enjoy your company and show affection without demanding all your attention and requiring very little upkeep.
Dogs, otoh, look up to you, but require all your attention--all the time, always need to be walked, fed, given a bath, etc. Not much less work than kids! My parents have 5 dogs, and frankly, it's a pain when I visit--some mutt is always jumping up at me, barking, demanding to play. Not that I dislike dogs, on the contrary, I still miss my old black lab......I just think cats are more suitable for my lifestyle. |
RE: Modelers and cats
A dog will respect your planes, at worst with a little training.
A cat will NEVER care, after all THEY own YOU. You choose which goes best with RC planes. |
RE: Modelers and cats
Cat and Dog "Golden Lab" that tries to tell us what to do;) the cat is Bingo which is scaredey cat and pretty much goes her own way and ignores the planes which is cool.

He's an indoor only cat as well. Wife and I got him from a shelter when he was roughly five months old. Was neutered at the shelter early enough so he never sprayed a single thing in our house. Declawed his front paws as well which has worked out well - no claw marks on any furniture. This item helped when we first brought him home and we were working to break him to keep him off a few counters(cats don't have any place on kitchen counters where food is prepared). http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...HL._SS500_.jpg There were a few times when this thing went off in the middle of the night when I had it set up on the kitchen counter. Laying in bed, I'd grin and think to myself, "Gotcha! Gotta stay off the counters, little buddy." Just like a dog, if you're black and white about what they can and can't do and you're consistent it pays off. somegeek |

RE: Modelers and cats
My wife and I have 4 cats:
Whiskey - saved from a shelter Shiner - also saved from a shelter Ziggy - found in my mother-in-law's backyard clinging onto a brick wall for dear life at about 4 weeks old. she was trying to get away from her 4 dogs. Lulu - born in our duplex's backyard in college and the mom left 4 kittens behind. We took one and our neighbors took another. The other 2 ran off somewhere. Love both dogs and cats. They are our children and treated as such. John |

I'm glad to hear that I wasn't that wrong on the first place. I would love to see more pics though...

RE: Modelers and cats
I have a cat... she's the Brown Poofy one sleeping with my wifes grey one. My wife has the light brown one that looks annoyed, I think my wife was picking on him. We also own a horse, but no dogs... just don't like em, there so dumb compared to cats.
Cats have a mind of there own, and you can't force them to do what they don't want to do... there very independent, they kind of fit my personality. My wife and I rescued the grey one from one of our old landlords who was back then... in the prosses of killing them, until we had him arrested and gave the rest of the litter homes. My Fluffy Dark Brown one, I adopted from the "No Kill" Shelter, and my wife did the same for the light brown one. When I work on my planes they sleep next to me while I work. They just don't like my Heat Gun when I turn it on, It kind of freaks them out. RE: Modelers and cats
I love both of my cats. My cat ( the other is my wifes) loves to help me when I'm working on my plane or anything else for that matter. Have to keep an eye out to make sure she doesn't take off with a screw or piece of wood. Got to get me a digital camera.
