A fellow at the field has a great planes cub(kit) with a 13.5 inch chord and the manual recommends a CG 4 1/2 inches back. This is 33%. Our test pilots did not want to fly it with this CG. It balances level at this CG. Has anyone flown this plane with this CG? If so, how did it fly? Thanks for any help you can offer.

P.S. It was recommended he change it to 27%. Was this bad advice?

Some people like to have a new plane just a bit nose heavy, but 33% seems reasonable to me, especially if the instructions specify that. Remember tail heavy is not a good thing.;)

Tail heavy at 33% IS the concern. We know tail heavy is not safe.

that would be a .60 sized cub. I am flying that one with the CG on the spar. don't know if thats 33% or just what it works out to but on the spar without fuel and it flies great.

Is that 4 1/2 inches back from the leading edge?

yes it is. 4 1/2 inches back. like I said it flies great right in that ball park, with the CG right on the spar plus or minus a little
