Tiger 40.

I have a thunder tiger something...With an os 40 la on it.I bought the plane off of ebay it was brand new.I added rx and motor and I was flying..My question is...Does this thing need a bigger motor? It seems as if it takes a bit oo long to get off of the ground.I have a 10x6 prop on it..thanks in advance..

The OS 40 LA is a most excellent engine for a trainer. It is light weight, user friendly and good power for basic flying. I have this engine in a WM Sky Raider Mach I trainer and it is an excellent combination. I use an APC 11X5 prop on mine with good success. If you are looking for more than basic flying from your plane, a larger engine, such as any BB 46 will give you a LOT more power. The 40 LA has many virtues, but high power is not one of them.

Not really more power.. once I get up I am wonderfull..I fly most of the time at half throttle.."till the guys get over anyway"..I just need to get off of the ground faster..

The 11x5 prop might be better for short take-offs. It wouldn't have to wind up as long.

The .40 LA is a great engine, but it can make take-offs a little bit of extra work when you fly from a grass runway. On a paved runway, it's no problem at all.

This probably isn't the problem but make sure the prop isn't on backwards.

I found that learning to use a long runway on takeoff makes for smoother climb outs. I'm a newbie yet but my trainer used a lot of runway. Now I use a lot of runway on purpose. The additional airspeed seems to help.

Just my 2 cents worth.
