RE: avistar tail dragger?
if you search for avistar in the memebr galleries there are some pictures of the conversion

RE: avistar tail dragger?
i didnt see any there

RE: avistar tail dragger?
Yep - it's very do-able and IMO makes it more enjoyable to fly. The only real challenge is getting linkage run for a steerable tail wheel. There's a solid former just ahead of the vertical stab that obstructs a straight control rod. But sharpening a piece of brass tubing and drilling from the rear gets around that. Before removing the tubing, insert a control rod through the tube. Then pull the tube and slide an outer ny-rod housing over the control rod and back through the holes. Then you can connect tail wheel linkage to the rudder servo. The main gear just requires a plywood doubler on the floor of the fuse.

RE: avistar tail dragger?
that helps but i bought it uesed and didnt make it so if you can make it a littel bit simpeler and if that isnt posibel it is ok

RE: avistar tail dragger?
What he means is this......
You need to do two things to convert a trike gear to tail dragger. 1. Move the main gear forward. The easiest way to accomplish that is to pick up a new set of nylon or aluminum main gear, and add a liteply mounting block somewere just ahead of the leading edge of the wing.(I'll take you a picture of my hobbistar in a second) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...8/IMG_1035.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...G_1036copy.jpg 2. Setup a tail wheel. There are two ways to do this effectively. 1st is to connect a second pushrod onto the SAME side as your rudder horn(meaning the rod is being pushed the same direction as the rudder rod is) and run it down to an independently steerable tail wheel. -or- cut the hinges on your rudder and install a wire into the rudder, down to a tail wheel bracket, then bend it out for a tail wheel. You'll have to notch the elevator to make a passage for it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...G_1038copy.jpg sorry for bad images...... My lens sucks :D. |
RE: avistar tail dragger?
ORIGINAL: SEEMEfly1 i didnt see any there |
RE: avistar tail dragger?
ya i forgot about the second page
i understand the rest of the stuff but i dont understand the wheel mount |
RE: avistar tail dragger?
its just a block of lite-ply mounter into the bottom of the fuselage....
|
RE: avistar tail dragger?
what about mesing with the fuel tank or recever
|
RE: avistar tail dragger?
its literaly glued to the bottom of the fuselage while those are out, it raises the floor maybe ~5/16'th of an inch....
in most trainers, the block is actually installed just behind the fuel tank compartment anyway. |
RE: avistar tail dragger?
ok i looked at my plane and underneth the reciver there is an emtey space but it is covered by a balsa would i remove that add in blocks and screw those in
correct me if i am roung |
RE: avistar tail dragger?
You mean the floor of the fuselage is balsa right? if yes....no you glue the block to it.......
|
RE: avistar tail dragger?
ok that will help
|
RE: avistar tail dragger?
really the whole idea of that plate is to give you something solid to mount your landing gear to. If you just used the bottom of the fuselage it would rip out when you landed :D

Maybe pics will help...
I epoxied the main gear support plate to the floor, sides, and former. The tail wheel is operated by a control rod directly from the rudder servo. That way I didn't have to mess with trying to connect it to the rudder through the elevator. I also removed the dihedral from the wing, but that's a whole different story... |
RE: avistar tail dragger?
ive done a conversion to my yamamoto in about 15 minutes (excluding epoxy drying time)
i basically took off the nose wheel, cut the ply landing gear block out of the bottom of the fuse, cut another section out of the fuse infront of the gear, moved the gear forward to the new slot and glued it with 30 minute epoxy, then glued the other section of the fuse where the original landing gear was pics to come if i can find me cam |
RE: avistar tail dragger?
my reciver is in the way ofwere you put the block of wood for the front wheels
|
RE: avistar tail dragger?
Duh, move it.:D
