RE: Nexstar "running in" engine

ORIGINAL: chopper man

I hate to even ask:D I just finish reading the manual on my GMS 47 that I'm going to put in my Tower trainer. It says that the engine needs to be broken in for 20 to 30 minutes, but it gives no description as to how. What is the best way for the GMS engines to be broken in?
Thanks
chopper man
Break in methods divide us all. I install mine on the plane, spend 2-3 tanks dialing it in what I like to call "the right way" and fly the darn thing. Still have the same engines I started for several years and all run excellent

Sorry for starting a post fight here!, Im just going to do a full breakin, its only 2 tanks and it can't hurt the engine so ill get my instuctor to set the mix to the proper spot when i go to the feild. Thanks to all that replyed.

You didn't start a fight. Just a difference of opinion. You asked a question and got several answers. IMO, that's what it's all about. I have only been reading these posts for a few months because I did not join a club (next year) and needed to get some good info. The best thing you can do is get an instructor. In my case, I wanted to teach myself how to fly. Not the best route to go, but with a little help from the people on this site, and a few hard landings, I have moved on to my second plane. It's a blast to fly these planes. Have fun flying,:D and keep asking questions.

No bruce its not stubborn, the limiter is installed on the OS46fxi so the raw beginner doesn't burn there engine up on the first try its only trash if it doesn,t say it in a manual.
even the advertisement for the plane says ready to fly with a pre set engine.
on the bottom of page 21 of the manual in bold lettering.

"if for any reason you need to adjust the limiter travel, find a experienced pilot to do so.otherwise, you may damage the engine"
this is at the top of the page
"the limiter on the high speed needle has been set at the factory to prevent you from running to rich or to lean, but it allows you a certain range of adjustment."
and I will paraphrase;generally,if you run the engine on the richer side,(refering to the limiter setting)it will last longer.also, you need to run it this waywhile breaking in the engine.

this is so the novice won't burn there engine trying to lean it too much, or overly richen so it deadsticks, as has been pointed out on numerous ocasions in the beginners forum the engine in this plane is set up to run rich for break in runs, also covered on page 21 of the manual.

read the post of all my other OS engines I have followed the run in procedure as ilistrated in the manual.
they all run well including the engine from this trainer because I followed the instructions when I started it up and subsiquent runs leaning it out to get to the maximum performance after 5-10 flights.

THIS IS NOT TRASH PAL ITS IN BLACK AND WHITE.by your own admission you don't own this engine so what qualifies you to insult me.nothing:eek:

Ok, I'm going to step in here and lock this thread down. There have been some emotional flare ups in the discussion of this topic. These do absolutely nothing to help the beginners that come to this forum for help.
