Need help choosing...
Hi, i've just crashed my trainer (dead stick, hit a fence)... not much of it left, my engine (os 0,65LA), 4 servos (futaba S3004) and receiver (R168DF) are ok, but the wing, stab, and firewall are complete garbage)
What will you recommend as second plane? I would prefere high wing, but tail dragger. Thanks! SDG666 |

How about a mid wing?

There's not much out there in a 60 size high wing tail dragger?
You may have to take a smooth flying Hobbistar 60 high wing plane and convert it to a tail dragger? You will need to put a doubler with corner braces in the fuselage floor right behind the bulkhead that is at the front of the wing. Fasten an aluminum gear to this this doubler. Add a plywood doubler to the rear with a Dubro 60 size tailwheel bracket. Make a new wire for the tail wheel that extends up the rudder hinge line and fastens into the rudder. The Super Stick 60 is a cheap plane that is easy to put together.
It even has instructions for using a tail wheel and includes the parts for either gear. I had one of these for several years. I had a Super Tiger 61, ASP 65, and Saito 91 engines on it. it flew about the same with either engine. It was my first venture into a non trainer - tailwheel type plane. It was my first summer in RC, i've flown for about 15 hours, but I have a lot of time with Real Flight G3.5 (using Corsair, Yak, Tribute 36...)
I love slow flight, but I wish to be able to go fast for time to time. I hope one day to have a scal corsair, with retract and flaps (and a gaz engine, not a glow) It was a hobbistar that I crashed, the RTF version with the 6exap. From what I saw, the stick (super or ultra) seems to fit more my need, but I may be wrong, so aany other input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks SDG666 |

You could try the Telemaster. Good flying plane and resembles a Bush plane. This is a kit but they also offer it as an ARF. |

A .60-size stick/stik of some kind is the perfect airframe for what you've asked for. You can pick the brand and model, but something that comes as a tail-dragger by default would sure make things easy for you. The Hangar 9 Super Stick .60 or Ultra Stik .60 are great choices, as is the Great Planes Big Stik .60. The Model Tech Joss Stik .60 ARF is available from http://www.hobbypeople.net and would also be a nice choice.
Your .65 LA engine will fly any of these planes quite aerobatically. |

I ahve seen the results of this and lets jsut say the plane never pulled out:eek: |

"I think you could move the sticks in a totally random fashion and it'd look cool." He just laughed and agreed. He added about 4" to the end of each wing, he said it really improved the predictability of it. The wings normally have a flat end, he added a flat piece along the center of the wing. So the wings come to a point. (Hard to explain, I've seen this triangle tip on a lot of symmetrical wings.) |

I had a Kangke SK-50 that could probably have been a good second plane but it landed a bit hot as I had it propped with an 11X6. With an 11X5 and a .46 to .50 engine it was a splendid flier; but it could still bite you if you weren't on top of it. His .65LA would not be suitable. I guess then I'd have to go with a .60 size Big Stik converted to a tail-dragger. I don't know.. The Tango is actually Greg's son's plane. Jackson is about 9 or 10, and Greg taught him to fly on the Tango. As wild as it can be in the air. It seemed to come down to earth pretty stable. Greg must have dual rates configured in. High rates when it's flying like an epileptic swallow, and low rates when Jackson's flying it like a sleeping buzzard. |

Get yourself a nice Cub. I have had two Goldberg cubs. They are great flying planes, They flew great with a .61 HB and a Saito 91.

Since the Hangar 9 "Sticks" have been mentioned, a couple of similar planes are available from World Models: Super Stunts 40 http://ecsvr.com/abm/shopexd.asp?id=50 Super Stunts 60 http://ecsvr.com/abm/shopexd.asp?id=51 For either one you'll need one more servo. Something like a Hitec HS311, about $9, for throttle. And they come with trike gear. |

Hard to beat the sticks. They are classics for good reason. A sweet and Low stick is simple to make from any stick kit, just turn the fuse over. You will have to shape the fuse for the wings but the incidences will not change as a stick by definition has a 0 degree motor mounting and elevator decalage. These don't chang when inverted! It is easy to do. :D this would give you something a little different and a taildragger as well because the low stick variant has to have the landing gear in front of the wing.

The 65LA only weighs an ounce or so more than a ball bearing 46 so it should be fairly easy to get the CG right by moving the battery pack around. 2. I think the plane comes with an aluminum engine mount that is not adjustable for width. You might have to replace the mount, which will probably mean drilling holes and installing blind nuts for the new mount. This is not hard to do but it does take some time and patience.
