Deadsticks , Evolution .455 trainer engine.. |
RE: Deadsticks
I must have gotten the only good Evolutions made. H9 PTS mustang - .45 Evolution, H9 Texan .61 Evolution, H9 Twist .61 Evoultion, H9 Corsair .61 Evolution, 4 Star 40 .46 Evolution, Eagle 2 .46 Evolution & everyone of them are Great. Not that I don't like others because I have them to I just have had really good luck with the Evolution Brand. I will say the .455 did throw the rod but they fixed it no questions ask & has been running Great since.

RE: Deadsticks
While i marked c for this one i must say that the answer would change a bit for 3d planes. In my experience, 4c glows are better for high alpha menuevers. For sport flying i don't think it makes a difference. Pumped Gasoline 2 strokes have no problems at all.
|
RE: Deadsticks
2 strokes definately.........just ask Tower engine owners
|
RE: Deadsticks
I do love hearing how bad Evolutions are..........it confirmes my thoughts that my .61 is CRAP!
Anyone wanna buy it,lol?....its only got about 20 flights on it! :D |
RE: Deadsticks
After ten years of flying the only engine I've ever owned that I couldn't force to run properly was an evolution .455 (.46a). I might have made a half dozen flights that didn't end in a flame out.
|
RE: Deadsticks
I have trained/flown 2 other .455 and a Evolution .52 , They run great , and bump start easily . I just could never get mine to run right.
|
RE: Deadsticks
Did you all know that 9 out of 10 Fords are still on the road today-----------1- finally made it home lastnight [X(][X(] Did I say that, Where did that come from. Back to the Bashing of the Evolution, If broken in properly set up properly & tuned properly they seem to be a great running engine.

Well, I love my Subaru Forester.
As far as fords go, I only have one word... EDSEL :D |
RE: Deadsticks
ORIGINAL: MinnFlyer Well, I love my Subaru Forester. As far as fords go, I only have one word... EDSEL :D Try a 1964 THUNDERBOLT 427 SOHC!!! So awsome NASCAR banned it and the engine because nothing could compete with it. EDIT:// Sorry. I mispoke. It was the Ford Boss 429 that was to awsome for NASCAR and the Thunderbolt was to awsome for NHRA Stock class so the association raised the number of production vehicles required to enter the class fron 50 to 500 units. |
RE: Deadsticks
Sort of like the Superbird. One of the most beautiful vehicles ever put on the road. I recently saw one sell at auction for more than $400,000.00

Now yall went & got me looking at old pictures of cars I had. 1 - 1972 (1965 2+2), 2 - 1975 (1969 Mach 1 & 1966 van), 3 - 1977 (1966 2+2), 4 - 1980 ( 1966 Coupe). I am hard core FORD.

Ford vs Chevy...

RE: Deadsticks
I've owned O.S., Saito, Thunder Tiger, Magnum, Super Tigre, and GMS engines and I've been happy with all of them. I've thought about trying Evolution, but they're as expensive as a good engine and they have the reputation for reliablity that an inexpensive engine offers.
I guess finicky and expensive just doesn't offer much appeal to me. It just seems that there are at least two less expensive choices in every size category that offer the same or better reputation than Evo. |
RE: Deadsticks
WhatdoIknow? I drive a VW Jetta.
Chances are if you drop the coin on a 4-stroke and it's a lemon you take the hobby store owner's family hostage and make demands. If you buy a cheap 2-stroke and it's a P.O.S. you shrug it off and bad mouth 'em on forums thereafter. 4-strokes also swing big honkin props that keep the ball rolling on flywheel effect alone when transitioning. That, and they tend to be better designed and better made. But in most cases it is pilot error (or ground crew - which is the same feller for most of us). It has been my experience that two strokes are fussier, but then they cost 1/3 of a similar 4-stroke on a given model. |
RE: Deadsticks
The worst engines I ever used were tower 46's. Some love them others hate em. Like others have said deadsticks are usually due to poor tuning. Suitcase had a hard time dealing with 2 YS 1.10's. They started and ran great but would sometimes die on transistion at the worst time ,like a go around landing. But with so much invested he spent the time learning how to tune them and it paid off with 2 strong running engines. I fly all fourstrokes only now and like the way they transistion and run. I sold my last 2 stroke and don't plan to get another. I am through with cheap chinese 2 strokes and for the price of OS 2 Strokes I can buy Saitos or OS fourstrokes.
About the Ford Chevy thing my dad raced 427 Fords on dirt and I started with a 71 Bronco and still have it. I use a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited for my DD and airplane hauler so I am not brand loyal. Wife even drives a GMC. |

RE: Deadsticks
ORIGINAL: Insanemoondoggie Cool a beer powered Chevy. Nice rides troposcuba . Deadsticks , Evolution .455 trainer engine.. back to the subject. got a supertiger .45 that gives me fits, but i love it when it runs good. just to prove it to the guy that gave it to me and keeps telling me to throw it in the trash. my evolution .46 is only a hair less dependable than my OS .55AX. go figure. cars... thanks for the nice words. here's the deal. even though i own more Fords than Chevys, i still claim Chevy. the wife's daily driver is the '71 bronco (she lets me drive it when it needs an oil change or other work), the stang was bought new by gramps (still own it and get to drive it occasionally when i am home in cali) and the '65 chevelle owned since '86, haven't driven it since '96 (been overseas in the military most of the time, but no excuse except procrastination for the last 3 years or so... but soon soon soon!!) |
RE: Deadsticks
Dang fellas...no wonder some of you guys have such large airplane hangars. I wish I could convince my wife all I need is a 1972 station wagon to drive around and then spend all my money on airplanes.
Instead I have a big new SUV and can't afford very many airplanes.[:o] |
RE: Deadsticks
all is not as it appears. I currently have about $21K in parts still in boxes in the garage next to the chevy that need to go in it, and about another $10K to finish it. that does not include body and paint!! so don't go thinkin old cars are cheap! not to mention have you priced classic cars lately? I couldn't afford to buy what I have back before they went through the roof.
