I`m sure you feel about your cats , like I do my horses and dogs . Some of the best friends I ever had and the most loyal . |
RE: Get out of here cat!!!
ORIGINAL: hungryandbroke I think I found a solution. He'll make me a nice pilot for my 1/4 scale planes! Up Up, Pull Up! RIP - Here lies ole "trouble" who's coming back as a "double". Oh No! Here we go again. :) |
RE: Get out of here cat!!!
He can have all the beer he wants as long as it ain't mine!
|
RE: Get out of here cat!!!
That's why all my planes are in the outdoor shop, the 10 cats of my wife live here with her. [:@] We did get rid of 1 today, a nice couple took her... Only about 20 or so left outdoors....

RE: Get out of here cat!!!
Cute kitty dude. For shelves, I use mouse traps. They won't hurt him but they certainly don't like it. After getting thier feet snapped a couple times, they learn to stay down. Except for one cat I had who could get through a forest of them so he could sit on the entertainment center. Couldn't figure out how he was doing it until one day he didn't know i was watching. Have had some problems with mine chewing antenna wires, but never the problems you have. If it gets too bad get with me and I might be able to give him a home. He can't have my beer though.

RE: Get out of here cat!!!
If my daughter ever found out I set up mouse traps to keep the cat off the shelves I wouldn't have to worry about the cat anymore busting up my planes, she'd bust em up personally!
She's a big doner to the ASPCA to prevent animal cruelty. I'll just tell her i'm a big doner of KTCOMP.... Keep The Cat Off My Planes! |
RE: Get out of here cat!!!
Keep the cat locked out of the plane room. ;) or get a dog:D or .................[X(]

RE: Get out of here cat!!!
I solved it by keeping our five cats OUT of the basement. I have two that are the most d#mned helpful animals that ever were. The dog helps me in my work area. He either curls up and watches or stands and keeps guard facing the outside cellar door. Luckily he's not a chewer. A friend has a boxer that loves crunching balsa, with or without Monokote covering.
When I was in high school I had a wall display of scale WWI fighters and bombers on glass shelves; all static display and carefully done with the full thread landing and flying wires and scale paint jobs. My cat at the time hopped onto the top shelf (with a Gotha bomber). Like a house of cards the cat, shelves and models all came crashing down. Cats and aircraft don't mix. Get a plant sprayer and set it on "stream" and squirt them whenever they jump up on a counter. That trains them to only get up on counters when you're not looking. :D |
RE: Get out of here cat!!!
A toy squirt gun works ok too... especially a super soaker.. :D Two hits with one of those and your problems are over.. except for cleaning up the mess afterwards.

RE: Get out of here cat!!!
Just get the kitty fixed. It's humane, and will calm him/her down a bit.
|
RE: Get out of here cat!!!
This has to stop!
I pulled out an old airplane box last night to look over some old plans i had in it along with 3 new rolls of monokote on top, walked out of the room to answer the phone and when I went back in the room there was ole "trouble" in the box scratching away at the monokote. Tore holes in all 3 rolls! I hollered.."get the H??? out of there!" i was so mad! The cat was already fixed when i got it. I'd have it declawed but to me that's torture |
RE: Get out of here cat!!!
Yeah, similar to having your finders docked to the first knuckle.
Kitty is bored! You need one of those lazer toys that wobbles on it's own or a window with a birdfeeder to keep herself amused. |
RE: Get out of here cat!!!
I already have a small shelf by the window and a feeder just outside of it. Whenever the birds land to eat, ole "trouble" jumps up on the shelf after them and about goes through the window! Now I'll probably have to start replacing windows too!
it never ends I can't beleive it! He's actually being good right now.........he's sleeping! (even though "trouble" is a female, for some reason I always call all animals (he). |
RE: Get out of here cat!!!
Oh No! Trouble just woke up.
Here we go again! :) I'll bet he dreams of what he can tear up next! |
RE: Get out of here cat!!!
I'm tellin' ya dude, the mouse traps work wonders and you don't have to be there for them to work. And it will not cause them any lasting harm. Probably stings like heck but have never had an injury even with younger kittens. Really young kittens usually can't get to where you'd be putting the traps. As for the ASPCA, pull up their financial info sometime. You'll find that they spend over 80% of their budget on promoting themselve and little or nothing on actually helping animals in need. This is publicly available info,BTW, but I can't remember how to get to it. I also think declawing cats is a bad idea, as your removing their primary defense mechanism. I have both dogs and cats and since my dogs are usually much larger than the cats having their claws makes things a little more fair. There is also the issue of her being able to defend herself if she ever gets out.
I would also suggest one of the multi-level climbing setups they sell at pet stores, getting a lazer pointer so you can play with her, and keeping your planes and stuff in a room where you can shut her out. You may be better off getting another younger cat for her to play with as older felines tend not to want to play much anymore in my experience, which will leave Trouble bored and looking for something to do/destroy. BTW, how old is she? She looks kind of youg still and she will calm down some when she gets a little older. Tenchi(pictured above) was much the same as your cat when I got him at around five months of age, he just wasn't allowed in my basement workshop then. He also absolutly loves the lazer pointer. Uh-oh, you got me talking about my critters, I better stop now. I've been accused of trying to start a private zoo before. |
RE: Get out of here cat!!!
Have you tried catnip?
|
RE: Get out of here cat!!!
i think the local kids dog is in order
or my first method of a cat in a bag in a river with rocks might help |
RE: Get out of here cat!!!
Spray bottle with a fine water "jet" does well, we use it with our congo african grey "Digger", if he bites for no reason, is picking the buttons off the TV remotes or generally being a nuisance and doing things he shouldnt, we give him a quick spray with the bottle, it works sometimes but i think hes too much of a bad boy to take much notice :P

RE: Get out of here cat!!!
With all the ideas given i'm sure i'll find a solution. I've only had her over a week and actually haven't made any changes to correct the problem. Once i get another plane project going you can bet it will be kitty-proof. Shes 6 months old, in a new environment and i'm sure things will be ok as time goes on. I gave her catnip a few days ago and that made her go haywire even more.
I agree about the charitable organizations sucking up the money and paying out little for the main purpose it was actually donated for. I told my daughter next time she is planning on giving her money away to charities, send it to me! I can use it a hell of a lot more than they can! (And it would be used for a better source....The HungryAndBroke RC Hobby Foundation!) things will be ok hopefully time will tell |
RE: Get out of here cat!!!
And just when you think she's calmed down, finally, you'll awake at 3 in the morning to find her running around the house for absolutly no reason and sounding like a herd of cattle is loose in the place. Ask me how I know!:D

I thought I heard something come crashing down as I was trying to take a nap and sure enough, there was ole trouble up to no good again making herself to home after knocking the plaything over. Then I wondered where she went to next. Sure enough, i was right in my thinking......She can't wait for me to open that box to tear hell out of it when i start my new project. I half afraid to now!
Help!!!! |
RE: Get out of here cat!!!
I don't normally reply to the oh-so-funny responses advocating violent acts toward a defenseless animal, but in light of recent news stories regarding animal abuse and violence toward children, I submit the following: would you think it funny if I told you to put your toddler in a bag and chuck 'em in the river because they stepped on your plane? After all, people area always asking on here how to keep their kids from damaging their planes. Say what you will, tell me I need to lighten up, whatever, but I'm just tired of hearing the same jokes over and over again, and it's not funny now, just like it wasn't funny the first thousand times I heard it. Reminds me of an old saying: "The more people I meet, the more I like my cat" (or dog, or other favorite pet, for that matter);).
