Engine break-in question

Hello all,

I will soon be purchasing this engine

I was just wondering how many tanks of fuel I should run through to break it in so I know how much I need to purchase.

Thanks:D

Naturally that would depend on tank size which you didn't mention.:D Seriously, burn 2 tanks on the ground and go fly just slightly richer than normal. 2 more tanks like that and break-in will be complete. It will still take about a full gallon to get to optimum and best idle but you'll get there without further ado.

I run a tank on the ground to make sure no loose screws or anything come out of the plane and when everythings good I would brake in the engine in the air.

Run a couple of tanks, check the idle and transition, and then fly it with a light prop for a couple of more tanks rich. You can lean it out a bit each flight, and run increasingly bigger props. Your engine should stay cool during the first few tanks and after 5-6 should be fully broken in.

Each engine is different. The idea is to run it so that it can stay cool, run rich with a reduced load for the first few flights. Your engine will thank you with long life and great performance:D

Yeah . I found my max today and ran a tank on the ground. My idle to WOT was smooth so i took her up and had a blast. I let her cool off for 20 minutes. Flew her for another 10. Let her cool off for 30. Flew for another 12. She was beautiful. Starts up with a flip or two now. Don't freak out about new motors. Just run them 6-8 click rich of max lean, and you'll be fine. Just look for a consistent exaugst and you won't burn out your motor.
