Have ya got anything where YOU actually pay ME to read it? I really like that kind of stuff. :D I did spot a couple of new articles I had not read yet.

Paid?? You mean people will pay us for this stuff???? Minn, you never told me that part of it!!!!!!!! ;)

Mike and I discussed this when we set it up and our first and foremost goal was to help the beginner. We want to do that free of ANY influence from the outside hobby world, and that is why we will never accept any advertising for Getting Airborne. We have the monthly overhead costs handled so it's not a huge deal if we don't have tons of money rolling in every month of it (although that would be nice). Our main goal is realized by helping new people get into the hobby successfully. When that happens we all benefit.

We aren't getting any advertising dollars to run Getting Airborne, and our overhead is covered, but we did have quite a bit of expense involved in getting up and running and producing the first video. That came out of our pockets, and that is why we are selling that video series to recoup some of that initial investment. But if we don't, oh well!!!! :D   The site will always be there!!

MIke recently added electrics to the site, and I am working on a video for the electrics portion which should be done soon. We will continue to add to the site as time allows us to get it done

Hi Ken and MinnFlyer...I purchased the video set via PayPal, but when I was redirected back to the gettingairborne.com site it showed an error. Is there something additional Iam supposed to do to gain access to the videos?

I hope this is the right forum for this, but did not see an obvious form of communication on the site.

Thanks!

Ian,
Odd. I'm able to access the video page with no problems. Do you know what the error you received was?? Try clearing out the cache on your browser. Closing out your browser. Restarting it and trying again. Let me know what happens. Feel free to PMme directly to continue diagnosing this problem

I would like to thank you for the site that you both have put together, it is very good. I have not flown for 19 years now and I really enjoyed reading the information that you both have worked on very hard. Some of the things i knew, but many things I forgot it or just did not know. Again, thank you.

I posted this question in the Q&A section so sorry about the duplicate. I watched the covering videos and noticed Minnflyer did not have any issues with the Ultracote seams coming up. The videos show the heat gun right on top of the covering at the seams and no issues. What am I doing wrong?
Back in the late 80s early 90s I used Monokote to cover my RC planes, then I stopped building until recently. I am building a Herr Cub and started to cover with Monokote, but after half a wing panel, I ran out. I thought I had more but I didn't and either did my local hobby store. I had some Ultracote and I bought another roll from the Hobby Store. I did not want to wait for Monokote to come in the mail so I figured I would give Ultracote another try since everyone raves about it. I like Monkote and I cannot tell the difference between Monokote today and Monokote back in the 80's, it has always required technique and patience to get a decent job. Well the Ultracote goes on nice and smooth and man does it shrink nice compared to Monokote. But I do have some issues that I would like to overcome and maybe Ultracote users could give me some advise. I watched Minnflyers covering videos and he didn't have this issues I had.
1. When I go to shrink the film with the heat gun the film wants to pull away from the seams. I have a clean surface free from dust and I use the recommended heat setting on my iron. I have seen post were people use a wet rag on seams to avoid this but Minnflyers video does not show this. He uses a heat gun right on top of the film next to the seam with no issues, so it must be me.
2. What is up with the clear gooey mess when I go to trim the film? What am I doing wrong? I am going through a lot x acto blades.
This is only the second attempt at using this covering and I really like how it shrinks and how fast it goes on compared to Monokote. Monokote is not bad, but does require more work for a smooth finish, but this is how I remember Monokote being. Right now it is a toss up between Monokote and Ultracote. I think if I can fix these couple of issues, then Ultracote will be my covering of choice.
