Andermac,

I think you are looking at doing this on a budget. Its the same way I have been doing it. Now if you want a cheap radio to use with both planes this is the way to go (on a small budget) http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...I=LXLDP9**&P=0 $110.00 This is the Futaba radio with a tower hobby sticker. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...I=LXRXF3**&P=0

The radio come with Transmitter and tranmitter battery, receiver and receiver battery, and a wall charger that charges both batterys. And a switch and a extention wire that will be needed for ailerons.

There are alot of fancy radios out there. But I have looked into my needs for today and a little down the road. This radio will work great for 4 servo planes, or 5 servo planes, planes with flaps and retracts. It also has mixes for V-Tail and Flaperon (which neither one of us will be using for a long while).
Just figured out this replying thing with message in it so you know what I'm referring to. Your right, I'm on a budget and I'm just trying to get a trainer with a radio I can use with both. My problem is I'm overwhelmed with info that I don't fully understand. Frequencies: How do I know which one to buy? I'm sure it has something to do with your area and electronic noise, etc. Maybe with types of planes, I just don't know. I'd like to buy a trainer with a radio that is good enough to move up on yet not so expensive as to make me sell of the kids inheritance. Maybe, an ARF with engine and no electronics. Then I buy radio and 2 sets of servos. Is there a trainer out there like that and radio good for beginners but would work well with 2nd trainer? Thanks for all the info. Andy

andermac,

If you go to the [link=http://www.sigmfg.com/cgi-bin/dpsmart.exe/MainMenuFV4.html?E+Sig]Sig homepage[/link], on the right are some pictures of their trainers. Press the link for “Next Cat” just above the pictures and the Kavalier should be the second plane down.

Before you get much further into looking into what trainer, radio, engine, etc. to get, find a club and talk to somebody there. Hopefully you’ll be able to hook up with an instructor and he’ll be able to guide you to a suitable trainer. Some clubs have a preference on the trainer they like, and the only way to know for sure is to talk with somebody there. Some clubs have a club trainer you can start training on (my club here in Wichita does, and I’m the one who does a lot of the flight training). They may also know of somebody selling a trainer for a good price.

Here’s the info I found on the [link=http://www.modelaircraft.org/clubsearch.aspx]AMA Chartered Club locator[/link] for Lamar, Ar.

[link=http://rivervalleyrcclub.com/default.aspx]River Valley RC Club[/link]

Contact: RON FOLLIS (you can get his e-mail address from the AMA locator link)

Hope this helps get you going in the right direction with you future flying, and eventually getting that Kavalier back up flying like it belongs.
