Hog Bipe question

Hi,
I know it's probably best as a 3rd plane....but I've decided my first build is going to be a SIG Hog Bipe. I told my instructor that the consensus from a number of people on this site is "make it a 3rd plane" because of it's different flight characteristics. I was gonna to go with a Bruce Tharpe Venture 60, but after finding out from Bruce that it will be about 4 weeks or more before he produces any more, that I can't wait and my instructor said that I can handle the biplane. My question is, that after hearing about the Tower .75 being rather strong, would you consider this engine for the Bipe??? I'd rather put a 4 stoke in the Bipe, but money is a little tight now and for $ 99 the Tower .75 seems like a good performer (Yes I'm aware of it's potential air leeks) Let me know about the engine choice.......Thanx.

Hog Bipe question

Flintlock28,

To answer the engine question. Yes, the .75 Tower would be a good performer for the Hog Bipe. Not unlimited vertical but no slouch either.

As to using the Hog Bipe for a second plane. My own choice would have been a Four Star 60 if I couldn't wait for the Venture 60.

Please use your instructor on a trainer cord for the first flights. Landing a bipe is different as the drag is much greater than a typical low wing. Meaning you have to have some power on landings.

Best wishes,
John

Hog Bipe question

If money is tight don't get a hog bipe, I'll cost ya for that plane when it crashes and whatever it costs for the second plane you should have bought in the first place...

Thanks for the tips guys......Hopefully I haven't bit off more than I can chew. My instructor is a friend that I work with who has built/flown numerous planes throughout the years. He says I'll be fine with it, if not I'll rip him a new one.
