RE: which conversion do I have?

As john was saying, I ignore used receivers at flea markets/swap meets or on line sales

Of all the Hitec receivers I have none are positive shift capable to work with your transmitter. Only the newest ones are plug compatible with Futaba servos.

Ok,that rings a bell on the Tx wall charger plug, all else
is the same,Guess I best stay with the newer equipment.
You guys are so much appreciated, thanks.

You may be missing out!

This is different than what John was saying or at worst newbies may infer such.

As long as they haven't been banged up, there is nothing wrong with used receivers. They don't "wear out".

John said that you should know what you are doing in terms of matching equipment for compatibility.

This is different than all out avoiding them.

Most more recent vintage ( less than 5 years old ) receivers are pin compatible as far as the connectors and leads, and as long as you match the shift patterns you are OK.

I've picked up dozens of RX's for a song from people who have moved to 2.4gHz and I have not had one fail yet. An good visual inspection, a range check or three both quiescent and when the plane is under power, and a check for component looseness ( plus a bit of tape on a crystal ) is all that is required.

This may not be good practice for relatively new people to the hobby?

Very true, which is why I believe John qualified it with "until you know what you are doing".

i have to follow your check out procedure when I get one of my old ones out to use in a new plane

RE: which conversion do I have?

Another question, With my JR Tx battery plugged/installed in the Tx, can I just
reverse the banana plugs on my accu-cycle deep cycle charger(red-to-black and
black-to-red) to charge the battery....or do I have to buy the JR charger banana
plug kit.

thx again,
Perry

RE: which conversion do I have?

It might be best to buy the JR kit because the connector may not be the right size and also you may forget to hook it up backwards

I have both accu-cycles and I thought I would never hook it up backwards but I have.

I have a friend to hook his up backwards a couple times too

RE: which conversion do I have?

I guess you saved my butt, thanks again, I will get the
kit, Butt.......until I recieve it in the mail, does that mean
I can just reverse the ends at the cycler for now, that way I
do not have to keep opening the Tx rear case when charging?

Perry

RE: which conversion do I have?

I do not have a JR transmitter but I do have Hitec and Futaba transmitters. Even though they are the same polarity on the transmitters, the plugs are different sizes.

Do you mean Hitech/Futuba servos? What do you mean "the same polarity on the transmitters" ? If its what I think you mean, the charging plugs are reversed,
meaning the center pin on the Tx(JR) is negative.....not positive like Futaba.

I was talking about the charge plug receptacle in the side of the transmitter. They are different sizes on Hitec and Futaba. I do not know about the size of the JR but I do know the polarity is reversed on the JR compared with the Futaba and Hitec

Ok..I understand.
Looks like if I was to purchase the Hitec SupremeIIS Autoshift DC Rx, I could then use either my Futaba or JR Tx's(same Channel's) and servos,batts....Correct?
Sorry this is so drawn out..trying to see the big picture here....thx again.

Another Question....,
Does this mean that my Airframe switch(on/off, charge) could be used for both
JR and Futaba. Meaning that my old/basic Futaba switch can be used on our newer
system.
thanks,
Perry

Yes your old JR switch hasrness will fit both the JR and new Hitec Rx. If you use a Futaba battery pack you will need to cut of the flange of the Futaba J plug with a #11 blade and shave it a bit. Any modeler who has been arond a bit can show you how to do this. You do need to get involved with a club and find a mentor as teaching oneself and just depending on these forums and a sim can get very expensive indeed.

RE: which conversion do I have?

Thanks again guys,
I will be joining a club near by as soon as I get fresh batterys and such.I have been out of
A/C R/C for about 8 years,I do know how to fly,own 9 planes, been flying off and on for over 30 years, but sure
have forgotten alot. All my a/c are Futaba equiped except the last one which is going to JR, thats why I have all
the questions regarding Futaba and JR match-ups.
It all sounds like that if I use the Hitec Supreme IIS Autoshift Dc Rx,I can now use either Futaba or JR
equipment, thanks to friends like you.........us old and new timers can learn this hobby without having
to take a box of trash bags to the field.

Hats Off,
Perry
