Servo size
 

Hi, what size of servo do I need to use on this plane on the retracts, rudder and elevators. the manul calls for standard servo. I know that I need a low-profile on the retracts but what size would be the best. How do you size a standerd pre what size of plane? When alot of manuals for differnt size planes state standerd size. This is the plane need sizes for. I just bought this plane from FlyBoy Models. They hade very quick service.

Just the standard size servos will work fine.

use the Futaba 3003 or Hitec 322 servos except for the retract servo

All the 40 to 60 size planes you are going to own can get by with just the standard servos

I'd use one of my Saito 100's in it. I would have to by the retract servo but I have a lot of the std size servos on hand

I don't think w8ye was offering to sell them (I could be wrong of course)... an ASP/Magnum .90 4 stroke would drive that plane around nicely and there's plenty of them brand new and dirt cheap on ebay. You could even go with an ASP/Magnum 1.20 - I have the ASP one in my Super Skybolt and it provides excellent service. Probably not as powerful as the same size in a more costly brand, but at 1/3 the price who's complaining? :D

JR st47 servos have a little more punch than the Futaba s3003.

Hobbypeople has the Magnum .91 fourstroke on sale for 149 on their site.
I just broke in the .52 4S that I bought on their Xmas sale and I love it. It ran great on the Fox Miracle plug I used.
They also have Airtonics standard servos on sale for 7.99. Their BB HD servos are 11.99.

What prop did you use to break in your 52. I have a couple of the 91's on my sea planes, may have to order another one. I will also get a couple of their mg hd servo for 19.99 use them on my pull-pull rudder.:):)

It said in the manual to use a 12x5, but I couldn't find one in the LHS's that I looked in, so I used a MA 11x6 that I had on hand.
I barely flip primed the engine, then put the driver on and bump started it and it just ran beautifully. Great little engine.

I have JR st47 standards in all but one of my planes, and they have served me well. They have .47oz of torque where the s3003 has .44oz at 4.8V. They are also $1 less than the Futabas at my LHS!:D

Talking servosI use mostly Hi-Tec but I see that Hobbypeople have airtronics servos, metal gear for 19.99 with approx 144 oz torque. I want to use them for pull-pull. Anyone have any experience with airtronics servos. Or, should I stay with the Hi-Tec for about twice the price.:(:(:(

About Airtronics servos, yeah, I would say that clearly, 75% of my servos are Airtronics. They are fine servos. But, to tell you the truth, I also have a few Futabas, several Jr/Spektrum, and a few Hitec and have found that they are all pretty much the same. If you can get a deal on Airtronics, go for it. Especially the metal gear ones for $19.99.. you can't go wrong with a deal like that.

Hi thanks for the help. Just ordered the mag 91 from Hobbypeople. Had problem with shopping cart, took awile. Who has Futaba servo on sale. I also like spekturm servo, my HellCat has all spektrum servos, rx and tx componets. I read wher it is better to match up componets then to mix. Is this so. Well back to work for me.

Mix and match, but know that airtronics have different wiring, so you may need to swap leads in the plug to get everything working right.

I would go with either the JR ST-47BB or Futaba S3004 (I fly both and can't tell any difference in them). Both these servos have ball bearings on the output shaft while the stardard ST-47 and S3003 have bushings on the output shaft. I've got a few of both with the bushing that have slop in them (these have been regulated to throttle servos). They cost a couple bucks more for the ball bearing versions but in the long run are well worth it. I fly .40 to .60 sized planes on these servos and have had no issues.

This is only on older Airtronics servos. Everything that has been sold by Airtronics in the 5-6 years has had "Z" connectors on them which will allow them to connect to every other major brand. The easy way to tell is if the connector is black it's older Airtronics, and if it's a blue connector it's a "Z" connector that will connect right up.

I have Hitec 422, 425, 322, 225, 81, Futaba 148, 3004, and 3003 servos

I use them with Hitec and Futaba receivers. Generally use a Futaba transmitter

I going to use my Spekturn Radio so I will also be using spekturm RX this is the type of receiver that will work with this radio, right?

Yep, only a spektrum rx (or some of the top end jr rx's) will work with a spektrum tx
