mounting bigger engine on F22 raptor
 

Hi - I have a hangar 9 F22 raptor. the issue is that I want to mount a .61 engine and the bracket for the .61 is too wide for the raptor's firewall. does anyone have experience mounting a bigger engine on this airplane?

What about a OS 55AX they have more of a 46AX foot print

yes .55 would be good too, but that means I'd have to buy one vs. the supertiger .61 that I already own :D oh and I think it'd rip the blue off the sky with a .61 :D:D

The Super Tiger 61 while an excellent engine is on the heavy and large size for a 61

If you are going to be getting up into that blue are you will probably need an air filter to keep the blue from fouling your glow plug.

They make special filters for this

I mounted an OS 55 on mine with no issues at all...I only had to adjust the throttle linkage and rebalance the plane...

alexedit.... I installed a .61 GMS on mine. I used the Dave Brown round mount BRO 60-70. I redrilled the holes in the mount to match the blind nuts in the firewall. I had to make a small V notch in the edge of the mount so the throttle linkage would clear. I also beefed up the inside of the firewall with some tristock and epoxy. Swapped out the stock wheels with 3" foam all around, put a longer nose gear in out of a Tiger 60, and I am running an 11x7 MAS Scimitar. I use the Bruline filters on all my planes. Keeps the grass clippings and junk out of the carb.

Here is a couple more pics of the Dave Brown "quick release" mount!!:D:D Remember to always check for those pesky gopher holes.
But you can see how the mount fits the front of the firewall.

Sourkraut - how does she fly with the .61? - do you know if the supertigre61 is wider on the bottom than the GMS.61? - I know this is a hard question to answer, but maybe you know.

The air scoops on the front of the Raptor PTS are designed to act as speed breaks - after all, this IS a trainer.

To get more speed out of it, build some balsa "Ramps" from the side of the fuse to the outside of the scoops. I did this and picked up a substantial bit of speed

I know it's suppose to be a trainer, but once you take the droops off and install the flap servos (which I did on the second flight) this plane is a beast! as fast as my Tower Kaos and less forgiving.

Hi,
I have just changed the Evolution .46 Engine that came with the F-22 to the new Evolution 52FX. The new .52 FX is the same size and configuration as the .46 with more displacement and fits perfect wihout any alterations. It weighs 1 ounce more and has a lot more power.

Yes, but what I mean is...

Take for example the Mustang PTS. It has the same droops and flaps, and it has removable speed brakes on the gear struts.

The speed breaks on the Raptor are the engine intakes - and they are NOT removable. But you can greatly reduce their effectiveness by adding those air ramps.

As w8ye has shown, the GMS and ST are about the same dimensions so it should work OK. Mine goes quite well with the .61GMS. I might actually try the mod that Minnflyer is talking about. Not that I need more speed but what the heck. Balls to the wall or go home, I guess!!!:D:D

Stock tank. About 7-8 minutes, with a little left for reserve, flying at 1/2 to full throttle. Actual mileage may vary!!!:D:D
