Futaba 7cap/chp

Hello all. i am new to flying ( havnt started yet ). I built a few planes when i was a teenager but never actually flew them. My wife knew i was interested in RC planes and bought me a hanger 9 P-51 arf. I know this isnt an ideal trainer. My uncle supplied me with a trainer that my 2 older boys and myself could learn on. It has no servos,RX or TX.I bought a Futaba 7cap from ebay ( not here yet ). I was wondering if anyone would point me in the right direction in the way of what RX and servos to get. I want to outfit both planes with the ability to use them from the 1 TX. The trainer is a 4 channel and the P-51 is 6 i think. Ther servos i found that i thought would work are the Futaba 3152. As for RX, i need 2 and have NO idea what to use. Is the 7CAP crystal? do i need to get 1 crystal for the TX and 2 for the RXs? or is the 7CAP the kind of radio that is programable? All i know about the TX is that it is 72 MHz? Some one plz help, i am lost [:o]

There are several receivers you can get, in addition to the Futaba receives. I'm not a Futaba person, but can guide you a bit with others that will work. For instance, Berg makes a very nice small (physical size) receiver that is full range and seven channel. Their 7P. It is compatible with just about all 72 MHz transmitters. Check that out. It's a very solid receiver.

As for servos, well, just about any servo will work too. You can get some pretty good deals on standard servos from Futaba, Airtronics, Hitec, JR/Spektrum, that all meet the needs of your aircraft of choice.

The Airtronics basic servo is on sale for under $10.00.. there is a posting here somewhere that has that information.. or someone will give you an update of that servo. The servo is a 94102Z and works just fine.

for the servos

for the Berg 7C receiver. Don't forget to buy a crystal with it if you decide to get this one. You have to specify what channel you want it for and pay the extra for the crystal.

outstanding thanks, Any idea about the TX? Does it use the itner changealbe crystals or is it something i can change change channels with? And depending on that, does it change the kind or RX i should get?

For radios that have crystals in them it is illegal for the end user to change those crystals. This must be done at a licensed service center that can check and retune the output with the new crystal in place.

OK, maybe im just not the brightest light bulb out of the pack. The Futaba 7cap, can anyone tell me if it uses crystal, number one. Number two, i realize i have to wait till TX is in hand to figure out what channel it is set for.... that being said, if i understand correctly, some of the new TX have the ability to set the channel from the TX, ergo negating the crystal in the TX. Does the &cap posess this ability?

yes it uses crystals and should have one in it with the channel number on it. The radio has multiple model memory. SO you get a bunch of receivers with the same channel on it. To change plane you go into the settings and set it to the model your flying. I get these for new models. [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXMHB1&P=0]flight pack[/link] For 80% of my stuff up to 60 sized I use the 3004 standard ball bearing servos, for trainers even a 3001 standard non ball bearing servo will work just fine. I usually get the flight pack without the nicd and get my own 2100mah nimh packs but the nicds are just fine. with these flight packs you'll also have to get a crystal [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXBFK8**&P=V]futaba crystal[/link] Do not get a thrid party crystal. if you go with say a hi tec flight pack then get a hi tec crystal

the pics I've gone through a couple screen, notice the name and model number change, that's your different set ups for different plane, I think I have 5 on here at the moment and 4-5 on my other radio.

[link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXMFU6**&P=0]This[/link] receiver is a good alternative to the comparable Futaba. Pretty sure it is essentially the same receiver rebadged and you get the crystal included in the price of the receiver. I have used them and can not tell any difference from the Futaba.

I use these with all my 72mhz stuff no issues whatsoever. [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXKYK3&P=0]Receiver[/link]

they are the same, I haven't tried on the reciever but on their servos if you pull back the label it reveals the futaba model number.

Firestormwolf76, send an email to the eBay seller and ask him the channel of the radio. You may as well get started buying your receivers, batteries and servos right away, this hobby will break your bank account sooner or later, so you might as well jump right in ;)

For 72 I always buy the previously linked Hitec Supreme IIS 8-Channel FM Autoshift DC. I've never had a problem with Hitec receivers, but I have had possible issues with Futaba. If you buy this receiver from Tower go to the bottom of the page under Tech Notes and follow the link to the correct crystal and choose the correct channel.

Find a good instructor to teach you to fly, and perhaps supplement real flying with a sim.

Good luck.

RE: Futaba 7cap/chp

can someone that is familar with this controller please inform me... what is the numerical data to the right of the voltage reading? mine says 18H33 .. does that mean the transmitter thinks the battery will last another 18 hours and 33 mins? no way. The manual points-out every other reading on the display except this one. Can someone please tell me what this is supposed to be telling me? Is it a lifetime timer or a "odometer" for the transmitter that is counting up?

Thanks.

Chris

RE: Futaba 7cap/chp

if your not resetting it then it how long you've operated the trasmitter over it's lifetime. in your case 18 hours and 33 min. it meant as a flight timer. so if you know your tank lasts about 12 min and your using the timer ya would knw yit time to land after 11 min.

RE: Futaba 7cap/chp

yeah i dont think it is a resettable timer. i believe it IS a lifetime timer. thanks for your input.

I don't see it in the manual, but I recall reading somewhere that the timer can be reset if you want too. Some one on the Futaba forum could probably explain how. That may be where I saw it.

you reser it by

exit all program modes.

turn the selector wheel until that timer is blinking and push and hold selector wheel.

I leave mine in total time used and use the switchable timer

RE: Futaba 7cap/chp

I thought it could be reset, I have never reset mine either. It still shows the time spent programming the radio. I use the count down timer for flying. Otherwise, I'd have to remember what it said when I took off.

RE: Futaba 7cap/chp

I kinda wondered what that time was for. I never even thought of it being a life timer. I also use the programable timer with one of the switches assigned to turn it on. Then I get a warning to land.
