Engine mounting on GP .20 Piper Cub
Hello,
I'm in the middle of building a Great Planes .20 size Piper Cub. I'm installing an OS .30 4-stroke. The directions say that side mounting is recommended but inverted is possible. Is there a good reason why I would not want to mount the engine inverted as opposed to side mounted? Will the engine still run the same? Thanks! Tom |

I have always used on board glow system when I mount an engine inverted.....makes me feel better......I have 2 strokes mounted on their sides but never a 4 stroke...my 2 strokes like "laying down"....

Thanks for your reply! Why is that? Is there a danger of failure when mounted inverted?

tpallas,
Your 4-stroke will run just fine inverted. I know lots of guys who fly with an inverted 4-stroke and have no issues at all, and they don't have any glow drivers attached to them either. If you do use the inverted mounting, you'll also be able to add cylinder details to both sides which will look a lot better too. Hogflyer |
