Trainer, Bolt-on-Wing mod
I'm going to be converting my LT-40 (kit built)to a bolt on wing. I will post pictures and instructions here, butI have finales today (last day of school). I'll have more news and some pics by thursday. (give or take a day or 2)
|
RE: Trainer, Bolt-on-Wing mod
Not spelling I hope. finals and Thursday :D
Sorry, couldn't resist. |
RE: Trainer, Bolt-on-Wing mod
Bruce, Bruce, Bruce.
|
RE: Trainer, Bolt-on-Wing mod
How does Bruce spell thursday
|
RE: Trainer, Bolt-on-Wing mod
Properly :D
|
RE: Trainer, Bolt-on-Wing mod
Yes, days of the week are supposed to be capitalized.
Maybe the kid is taking his grand finales!:D |
RE: Trainer, Bolt-on-Wing mod
Nicely done Brett :)
|
RE: Trainer, Bolt-on-Wing mod
I took some pictures and got some stuff at my LHS. I reinforced and drilled out the wing as well as making an aluminum peg (6061 alloy as always). I just have to re-sheet the wing, and reinforce the fuse. Pics will be up tonight or tomorow.

RE: Trainer, Bolt-on-Wing mod
Guys, guys...........He only made one spelling mistake, and left off one capital. Not really all that bad. I find that about twenty-five percent of the posts in this forum have grammer that is just atrocious, and spelling that is so bad , as to be unreadable; yet nobody ever complains . This post by qwertypemdas actually was one of the better ones. I'll give him a 9.5 out of ten http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...sn/biggrin.gif

RE: Trainer, Bolt-on-Wing mod
I think yall need to cut the guy a little slack. We all make spelling mistakes and he is trying to help others after all. We should think about promoting the hobby and helping others rather than nitpicking a misspelled word. Which I prolly just did! :)
|
RE: Trainer, Bolt-on-Wing mod
If I was picking on him I would point out that he just mis-spelled "tomorrow".:D Seriously though, I was just funnin' with him all along. I just find it odd how badly so many do with their spelling and grammar these days and people just make excuses for them. Sure we are simply on a "social chat site" where we are allowed to relax the rules but should we to THAT extent? My parents always taught me to put my best effort out in all that I do.
OK, off the soap box. |
RE: Trainer, Bolt-on-Wing mod
I want to see the conversion. Photos please!!!
|
RE: Trainer, Bolt-on-Wing mod
It wasn't just that he misspelled some words, but that he did it in the same post that he said he was taking his finals at school.;) That is the perfect storm so to speek. As hard as I have worked on my spelling and grammar throughout school and the hundreds of reports I have written, I believe I have somewhat of a duty to point things out at times. I will admit that I still get confused as to where to put commas sometimes.
|
RE: Trainer, Bolt-on-Wing mod
OK Brett, I've got to play fair, so to "speak".:D Feel free to nail me whenever I make a mistake and I make a lot too.:)
|
RE: Trainer, Bolt-on-Wing mod
I could say that I did that on purpose, but I didn't.[&o] Oh well. I did post a video of someone screwing up the spelling of some important banner once and purposely misspelled the the post to make it funny and nobody got it. It was pulled down by a mod because everyone was making fun of me. I thought it was funny though.
|
RE: Trainer, Bolt-on-Wing mod
We won't make fun of you.. [:-] but we may... just may... edit out the mistakes. :D We just don't want you to misspull werds, now do we.
CGr
|
RE: Trainer, Bolt-on-Wing mod
If we can't take a little kidding now and then we're lost. I'm the butt of plenty of jokes, trust me on that one, some earned and some not. Just look at some of the pics RCKen has posted of me, like he's got room to talk.:D OK, there I go again. He's a great guy.
|
RE: Trainer, Bolt-on-Wing mod
I'm sure Ken would probably agree with you calling yourself a butt!:D He might use a different synonym though.;)
|
RE: Trainer, Bolt-on-Wing mod
ORIGINAL: bruce88123 OK, off the soap box. Ok Bruce, what kind of soap box is it? |
RE: Trainer, Bolt-on-Wing mod
Empty!
|
RE: Trainer, Bolt-on-Wing mod
I'm as guilty as anyone for mispelling, but its usually from fat fingers and being in a hurry, not from lack of education or intelligence. But if some one wants to poke fun at my mistakes that's fine, it just means they might be leaving some one else alone for a while.:D

RE: Trainer, Bolt-on-Wing mod
Id like to see the pics and talk technical.

RE: Trainer, Bolt-on-Wing mod

RE: Trainer, Bolt-on-Wing mod
ORIGINAL: shd3920 qwertypemdas must have given up on this thread. Too bad, I realy wanted to see the modified photos. Before you convert, take some measurements on your aileron horns and linkages, to see how much room you have inside the fuselage for them after you add bolt-on thread blocks. Every single conversion I've seen where the thread blocks are inside the fuselage, the blocks interfered with the aileron horns and linkages. That may bewhy the OP hasn't posted again. DuBro makes a nice conversion set, to be located outside of the fuselage. Then you just have to beef up the wing, where you put the attaching bolts through. Good luck, Dave Olson |

RE: Trainer, Bolt-on-Wing mod
For the LT .40 I upgraded the landing gear to be taller, stronger and able to handle a 12x5 prop without breaking it while running a Magnum .52 4-stroke. Ill post up those upgrades if anybody is interested.

Ok maybe not, I'm almost done with the conversion (after riding my bike to my LHS and hardware store like 50 times) and if the pictures aren't up by tomorow then you can shoot me. (I took about 100 pics and I've never uploaded to rcu before so we shall see)

RE: Trainer, Bolt-on-Wing mod
Well, i just sliced open my thumb with an exacto saw... the doctor says I need stiches but I opted for a band-aid (more like 10 bled through band-aids) so I can still work on mt plane. I'm trying to get the pictures on a disk (my dads camera is like a one way door for data). Might have them up in the next 20 minutes.

RE: Trainer, Bolt-on-Wing mod
Ok, I'm on the last step of my trainer bolt on wing mod. I need your opinio on what to use for the blindnut anchors. I can use 1/4" ply (definately strong enough), or one-and-1/2" by 3/4" in solid balsa stick (the strongest hardest balsa I've seen, got it from a bag of balsa blocks). The ply might be overkill and it would take forever to get it to fit right as well as get a good bond. And the balsa would be super easy and I have a 3/4in thick gluing area but i'm not sure if it would be strong enough. I'll wait until tomorow for a reply otherwise I"ll just choose one depending on how much work I want to do. Also, I recently discovered that I am a VERY slow builder. It takes most people (even kids) like 1 month to build the LT-40 working on it each night. It took me like 6 months to build working on it all the time using CA AND ACTIVATER!!!!
