I'm confident that I could get any brand of engine broken in and tuned correctly.

Must resist, must resist the urge... cannot resist... oh well.... here goes...

:D:D Even an Evolution 1.00 NX? :D:D

lol, now that does sound like a challenge!

Occassionally an exceptional challenge like the Evolution 1.00NX or the GMS 1.20 comes along. Even as bad as those two notorious engine models are, the rest of the Evolution and GMS 2-stroke line-ups aren't particularly difficult to tune and fly. Fortunately, I'd actually have to buy an Evolution 1.00NX before I'd have to tune it and fly it, so I won't be taking that challenge anytime soon.

Horizon's recent price hikes across almost the entire line of Evolution glow engines has recategorized them from "mediocre" to "mediocre and expensive." Evolution engines have never been very high up on my shopping list, and now that Horizon thinks that they're worth almost as much as O.S. Max engines, they're probably at the bottom of my list for most any given size category. The Evolution TPS stands alone as the only solid value in the Evolution glow line-up at $79.99.

If a project came along where I thought the GMS 1.20 was an ideal engine choice, I'd certainly take a shot at breaking in and tuning one. I'm afraid that opjose might have called my bluff, however, as I can't imagine ever trying an Evolution 1.00NX, unless I found one in like-new condition for $25 or something.

RE: what about these?

I have a ST-45 on a plane that I do not fly very often. It has about a dozen flights on it. Yesterday I took it out for the first time in about a year. The engine started as soon as I turned on the starter, and it idled and ran perfectly with no adjustment. I think they are great engines for the money. They are a bit heavier and louder than the competition, which may matter in some applications.
