How old are you?
I saw the same subject being discussed in the car forum and I thought it was quite interesting. I'd be curious to know how old beginners are (non-beginners welcome to answer also, just tell us that you are not a beginner.)
I am 40. I got in the hobby when I was 33 and built a kit but never flew it. Just got back into it now. |
RE: How old are you?
Too old, but the alternative is not looking good;)
Actually I'm 62, I started flying U-Control around the age of 9 when there were only kits available. Some of the kits at the time were just blue line tracings where you had to cutout all the parts for assembly. So we all learned to build and repair very well. ;) |
RE: How old are you?
32...started flying 3 years ago. Ive always thought RC planes were so cool as a kid. So once I could afford it...I made the jump. LOVE IT!

I'm 13. I started flying about 3 years ago and I've been hooked ever since :) I'am very fascinated w/ aviation and hope to have a career in aviation one day. I have also flown a (full scale) Cessna 172 on an introductory flight w/ my Uncle who is a CFI down in Ottumwa, IA. I do have a tie to full scale planes through my dads side of the family and as well as my name. My dad used to be a Flight Mechanic and when he was in school, at around the time I was being born he was working on a Allison v12 engine (used in WWII planes - P-40 Warhawk, P-38 Lightning, early P-51's, etc.) so he named me Allison. This thread could turn out to be very intresting [8D]

RE: How old are you?
49.
Did some rubber & glow powered free-flight and glow control line while in junior and senior high school. Flew r/c gliders before & during college and briefly tried to be self-taught in R/C powered flight (glow). Got disgusted and gave up until 2000 or so. Having an instructor & buddy box helped immensly. |
RE: How old are you?
Turned 70 last May. Started with u\c at 13. Been flying r.c. about 25yrs. now. I still fly like a beginner. Love it.

RE: How old are you?
Will be 29 on the 26th of this month. Flew on the buddy box when I was about 13, my dad crashed ours hard so we got out because it was just too expensive at the time. I went to a $600/month private school. Now I'm married with kids of my own and I have a good income and sold a lot of spare parts to my 65 Mustang I had laying around to finance my now fleet of 7 airplanes. Now I just need to find time to fly them, the kids get most of my attention. That's how it should be though.;)

RE: How old are you?
I will be 39 next month. I have loved planes and aviation eversince I saw my first bird fly. I never had the money for it when I was younger and then, 3 years ago, I bought in. I now have way to many planes now. I dove in head first and flew every chance I could. I now provide instruction at my club and have soloed several new pilots.

RE: How old are you?
18 turn 19 in december, I've been flying for 1 year but I loved anything to do with planes ( rc, full scale, etc) since I was in the 3rd grade(I still have rc magazines from the 3rd grade), thats the farthest I can remember, but I'm sure it goes farther back.

RE: How old are you?
I'm 51 and have been flying RC for about a month. I have my ARFtrainer. a CGTiger II, and a new Escapade I hope to maiden on Sunday. A GP Big Stik 40 ARF nextup on the bench, and a GPExtra 300 L 60 kit waiting as the winter build. Hope the wife doesn't see what I'm spending on all this. The planes aren't too bad, but radio gear and engines aren't cheap. LOL Happy flying to all! Jim

56 and built my first RC plane (and radio) when I was 15.

RE: How old are you?
Am 41 soon but still love all my flying toys. I started RC back when I was 16. I went to a park, saw people flying and told mom, "I want one too". She gave me one despite the fact that it was expensive and we were about to go through a recession. For me its just about enjoying the hobby and am not competitive at all. :)

RE: How old are you?
I will be 51 next month and I love anything with wings and a motor, I started when I was about 8 on control line built from plans and a couple of kits after I got a paper delivery round.I got into bikes beer and women the first thing to go was the planes then the bikes then that was that till 15 vyears ago and got back into modelling and rc flying.
Its hardto believe that when I started back a 6 channel Futaba skysport cost £200 and now a Futaba 2.4ghz 6 channel computer outfit can be had for less than £150 never been a better time to be a modeller. www.modelclub.org |
