Too pretty to maiden?
1 Attachment(s)
Just got the focke wulf finished up, just gotta adjust the cg. This will be the scariest maiden yet for me, lots of time put in on this one. I may maiden it with the cowl off too, dunno.

RE: Too pretty to maiden?
It does look pretty. You will be fine
|
RE: Too pretty to maiden?
You want help with the maiden???
Ken |
RE: Too pretty to maiden?
Brett the plane is extremely stable and flies like a low wing sport plane. It lands pretty slow if you use the flaps. If you have some low wing time you should be okay but RCKens offer makes sense if your nervous.

RE: Too pretty to maiden?
Is it an ARF or kit?
|
RE: Too pretty to maiden?
That's a Kyosho ARF.

RE: Too pretty to maiden?
I think it's funny that you aren't scared to hang it up on that itty bitty hook. :D

RE: Too pretty to maiden?
ORIGINAL: brett65 I may maiden it with the cowl off too, dunno. And how much does the cowl weigh? Lot's of people make 1st flights with the cowl off, never once considering what the removal of 2-3 ounces does to the CG. And many do it because they have no clue how the new engine will run which suggests why lot's of them wind up deadsticking. Better to take a bit of time to get the engine running reliably. It's really good to have a reliable low end and an idle rpm you can trust that's slow enough and sure enough to give you a reasonable speed on final. |
RE: Too pretty to maiden?
I appreciate the offer Ken, I wouldn't want you to have to drive this far just to maiden a plane for me, or me drive that far either.:D I think I can handle it, its just that when it comes to mechanical things that cost me money I'm a real pessimist. If it does fly like a low wing sport plane then I should be fine. I'm in no hurry as I do have to get the cg fixed and do some actual runtime of the engine on the plane.

Buddy box it?
Always a good idea if you need a BIG trim change on the right stick and reassuring as well. |
RE: Too pretty to maiden?

Lawton to Oklahoma City is about 90 miles one way, plus or minus. That's a very nice gesture, I have to say!

RE: Too pretty to maiden?
It's a pretty easy trip. and I could always run over to hobby shop while I'm there too!!! ;)

Ken
|

RE: Too pretty to maiden?
good luck on the maiden

RE: Too pretty to maiden?
I maidened a CG 67" Edge 540 Saturday that I had put alot of extra time onto because of the flutter issues. I got it up and down with out any real issues but was very tense during the flight

RE: Too pretty to maiden?
Fly it already!! HA! Man just to meet RC Ken, I would take him up on his offer. But think you'll be fine. Looks great!! I flew the SD with the cowl off for the first three flights. Wanted to see the fuel lines before and after flights to make sure all was well. Also in case I needed to adjust the low end mix. Re-checked the engine mount bolts too. I used red 232 locktite in them. They're not ever coming loose. I was relieved after the maiden, that's for sure. You'll do fine. Can't wait to hear the post flight report! Love the WWII warbirds. No doubt the best period for aviation ever! Took real men to fly those planes the way they did, now it's your turn. truth be known, you probably know more about your plane than alot of the pilots did back in the 40's.

RE: Too pretty to maiden?
We'll be here waiting Brett... Take Ken up on his offer man, that'd be a real treat, if for nothing else, to shake the mans hand!!!
Good luck and bring us back a report!!! |

I can't seem to get her to idle nice and low, it is cold and really misty so the weather isn't ideal. Could that be it? It idled well on the test stand. |
RE: Too pretty to maiden?
RCKen is a blast to fly with . I bet a dollar to a doughnut , if he shows up , he,ll bring his own flipping stick. Kept it in his pocket the whole flight when he flew up here lol.
Good luck on the maiden and if Ken does it for you, you,ll be in good hands. |
RE: Too pretty to maiden?
Brett,
Very nice looker, good job. By all means, take the offer. And, be sure to take a camera, to share the experience with the rest of us. EJ p.s. Hi, Ken. |

It idled well on the test stand. glad to see its in one piece again, how did the covering repairs turn out? i think ken is looking for a excuse to tell the boss (wife) that he needs to take a day off, while hes in ok city he will buy a few planes to save on "gas money" :D:D:D:D heck might as well take up the offer, to get ken out of the house and at the field (and hobby shop), and if he smashes your plane you can tease him on the forums :D:D:D. if i was you i wouldnt fly the plane if you arnt comfortable with the engine, if it will hold a high idle i wouldnt worry about it (can always kill the engine on landing), but if it wont idle at all dont take the chance. |
