RE: How Do I Stop Shaking
The first five years I flew planes, I never shook once.
I developed essential tremors in 2004 and now can't fly a trainer without shaking so bad I can hardly keep it in the air. I am not anxious, not nervous, I shake while tying my shoes now. If I look at something and concentrate, my brain can not function and I shake. Sometimes its my hands, my voice, my head. Top Gunn nailed it earlier, at least my issue. Beta Blockers (I take Proprollonal) a very small dose and I don't shake at all for a whole day. It does slow your heart rate down, and makes me nauseaus, but its the only way I can safely put a plane in the air. |
RE: How Do I Stop Shaking
I can't help but think that there are environmental reasons for some of the afflictions we suffer with. For example, look at the food we eat, water we drink, air we breath, exercise we get.
For the shakes.......take up combat flying and do it regularly. After you demolish a couple dozen planes in a year or 2, it will seem to get "old hat". |

Find another hobby. They will and do crash, just a part of life. If you can't afford it or handle it when they go in, stick to cars or boats.

RE: How Do I Stop Shaking
Just skip the first flight and go straight to the second flight. :-)

RE: How Do I Stop Shaking
I chewed gum before flights that made me nervous.

As far as shaking-I also have a friend with a 4000 watt 3dHobbyshop 87" SHP, I see him shaking everytime he diconnects the battery. I usually stop when I am packing up to go home or I have no adrenaline left. iF it gets to me too much I just put a couple of flights onto a slower plane(like a GWS SLow Stick) until I have relaxed a little.-BW |
RE: How Do I Stop Shaking
hi DR BOJANGLESnice to meet you as well my son rides an 8 second turo charged 1000 cc SUZUKI-Do fly the same plane on a given day at the fieldall planes fly a bit different-so spend your time getting to know the one plane your are flying for that day-the first flight is usually the most difficult to get throughonce trimmed and engine set up-all gets easier to DOjust some duplication-hopefully remember if you are not having FUN you are doing it wrongstep backtake a break-and regroup-WE ARE IN THIS TO HAVE A GOOD TIME-ENJOY THE WEATHER-FRIENDS-AND TO PROVE TO ALL WE ARE GREAT ENGINEERS-the last being the hardest DO ENJOY REGARDS TONY

RE: How Do I Stop Shaking
ORIGINAL: Luchnia Here are a few thoughts that helps with my nervousness. Fly your simulator, and maybe fly a small electric before you leave home to go to the field? Usually if I have not flown for quite a while, I just take up my trainer or a slower flying second bird and buzz around for the first few flights. That always does the trick for me and I find my nerves are so much better. They are very docile and really sets me in the mood and to top it off I don't lose a nice plane! I see guys come out and fly some of their most advanced aircraft after not flying for a while. That makes no sense to me, but somehow they don't have pride if they come out with a docile bird. There are times this is a huge mistake! Sometimes they hit the dirt because they have not flown in a while. It isn't worth it to me. I would rather be made fun of than have to work on a crashed plane :D You have a very good point. ORIGINAL: MANFRED Find another hobby. They will and do crash, just a part of life. If you can't afford it or handle it when they go in, stick to cars or boats. That wasn't very nice. Pete |

RE: How Do I Stop Shaking
It is quite natural to be nervous flying other's planes. Hopefully you are a "pincher" on the sticks. If you are simply gently squeeze your finger and thumb together. Be sure that your thumb is on top of the stick and your supporting finger is directly underneath, and just apply a LITTE pressure.
If you've ever shot a pistol, many people use the push / pull technique to steady the weapon. This is the same principal for your thunb and finger. Don't forget to take a breath! Happy Landings! |
