Ok, I got home with the planes. As it turns out, only two have engines and appear to be complete. Two more are built, but have no engines or controls, and one is still in the box. I'm going to post a few pic's and letyou guys tell me what to look for in order to identify and valus the planes and equipment. I'll start with the one of the complete ones:</p>

These look to all be 40 size planes. Not a bad mix at all. The yellow one without engine is a Sig 4 star 40, a great second or third plane for the new guy. The orange one is a trainer of sorts. My guess is that it, then the 4* were #1 and #2 and the your first phots were #3 and #4 using the engines from #1 and #2. The Hots kit should gather a lot of attention. The starter and field box is good usable equipment. For a new guy into the hobby, this would be a great haul. You shouldn't have much trouble selling any of it. I am not familir with the radios, but they are at least a two or three levels back from the current ones. They won't fetch much as everyone wants 2.4ghz stuff now, but they are most likely still quite servicable and usable.

The trainer looks as if it has had a few rough landings, but isn't in that bad of shape based on the photos. The other planes look to be in OK to good condition. The one needs the cowl recut for the engine, it isn't going to cool well the way it is, but that is a minor issue. Good luck with them. They are a desirable set of planes. You shouldn't have much trouble selling any of them.

The orange one looks like an Ultra Sport. Still a very popular model. Too bad you are in Wa.

The red/yellow one is definitely an Ultra Sport - it's one of the best planes ever!

And I agree with Campgems, The trainer was probably his first plane, the 4-Star was his second and the two with radios was what he had advanced to

The Extra 300L looks like a fun little plane, the Ultra Sport is also a good one. The Hots kit is something I would like to have myself. Nothing there worth a bunch of money but the kit you may do OK on. The radios are worth next to nothing these days. I won't quote any prices because these are only worth what someone is willing to pay and the only thing I would want is the kit. I was getting my old kits at auction and never paid more then $20.00 for any of them and I know on the open market you can do a lot better then that.

Don't the ailerons look small for an Extra? Definitely not intended for 3D.

Thanks for the info and id's. What can you tell me about the engines in the first two? How are engines classified-by displacement or power or some other benchmark? I'd like to be able to speak somewhat intelligently when I go to sell them, and thanks to you folks, I may be able to do that!

You will probably need to take the cowling off the planes to see what the engine is exactly, they could be anywhere from an $15 engine to a $100 engine but without cleaning them up a bit they may not get much money.

both of your engines are made by OS

the engine in the supersport looks like a 40-46 size and a little older since the needle valve in mounted in the carb, most of the newer models now have remote needle valve locations, look on the side of the engine case there is usually a logo which helps ID a engine type as well if its a LA version it drops the value a bit since it would be a bushed engine rather than having berings a somewhat important distinction for value judgments.

the engine in the extra is a little newer the cooling fins have a rounder shape to them which means its a fx (slightly older) but still a new generation engine.

if you pull the cowl off the extra it will help, hard to tell the size of it all covered up, the older engine could get between 50-75$ if it was cleaned up a bit, the newer one mabee a bit more depending on its size, larger means more worth.

too bad your not into the hobby you have a steady trainer to sport line up

Very nice collection. Maybe i missed another thread but im just curious, was this inherited from your father? Do you just have no interest in trying to fly them?

That extra 300L  kit is a house of balsa kit.It is a great flyer i totalled mine doing some fancy manuevers with it.Have always thought of building another.

I'd be interested in the Four Star if you are close enough for a local pick up? I have family in Sammamish, Wa. I am training my brother in law to fly this summer (June 16th) when I get up there and this would be a great second plane for him.
