Sticks

You long-time pilots really like those sticks. I had a Wildstick as a replacement plane and enjoyed it.. but it wasn't what I thoght it would be. But, it proved me way off base because it was rugged, and very VERY capable. You are slowly convincing me to get a biger one.

RE: Sticks

I've had sticks for many years

They are not the best for 3d
There are faster planes
Some planes fly slower
Others look better

But over all, they are dependable, long lasting, and good with the wind.

The best sport plane I have ever owned was my Midwest "Das Little Stik." It was built like a tank yet would slow down like a trainer. It finally got too fuel soaked and fell apart. I scratch built another and still fly it today.

RE: Sticks

I am not into 3D and enjoy a nice slow flying, yet capable plane to relax flying with.

I have an os 1.20 AX as well as an OS .75 AX doing nothing right now, as well as about a dozen or more servos in all categories, sizes, and torque levels. It seems a shame to let them sit around gathering dust, ya know?

An overpowered Stik is one of the the most fun models you can have.

Yes. Used to was Stiks were the test horses folks tried new engines, equipment and techniques in because you knew the design was sound so you could tell whether what you were testing was good or bad. Models like the Stik and 4-40 Bipe were bashed into everything you could imagine, because it was so good you could twist it big-time without it turning on you.

Don't let that stuff set around...send me that 1.20 AX and I will keep it warm in an air frame for you [8D]

Sounds like a home looking for a Giant Stik.

CG,

Put the 75 on a 40 size and the 1.20 on a 60 size and enjoy. :D

The 75AX would go nicely in a Ultra Stick 60. I love my US's!

I have a .75 AX on a Goldberg Skylark 70 and it flys just great. I think that's what I will go with, as you suggested, Scooter, although putting the 1.20 on there does sound like fun !!! :D

The UltraSticks (except the 25) have all been discontinued[sm=disappointed.gif][sm=disappointed.gif][sm=disappointed.gif]

It is a shame that Horizon seems to show a lack of interest in the planes

They will proclaim that there is a public lack of interest.

In reality, they have priced the Ultra sticks much higher in price than some of their other models and people have reverted to the cheaper models

I have all the bigger Ultra Sticks and they fly great but I also have the 40 & 60 Twist models and they are a little more capable for a lot less money.

I think it is time they re-engineer the Ultra Sticks to have the Twist airfoil and to use less balsa wood if that is the pricey item that is holdiing them up?

No crap!?!? Lhs has a 40 & 60, if this is true, I'm going down there and picking them up. I'm going to call HH.

H9 still has the UStick 40 ARF on their website, but it shows out of stock. Does that mean it's discontinued?

I don't see the UltraStick 60 any more though.

Both the Super Stick 40 and 60 are available.

RE: Sticks

I cannot remember what it was now but at around age 12 or so I had something that looks a lot like the sticks we have today that I flew U Control.
I have a scar or two on my finger from starting it to prove it! http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...ssed_smile.gif

And the Hangar 9 Ultra Stick 60 was discontinued. I have the 40 version though that is still being made.

That's your Ryan's Rebel?

H9's note on the Ultra stick 120 and 60 say discontinued.

The note on the Ultra Stick forty say's "Temporarily out of production". Hard to figure as they just brought this version of the 40 out in June.

krashkart 08-17-2010 04:38 PM

RE: Sticks

Wow, I bought the 40 version just a couple of months ago.
I suppose they will discontinue it now too.

After seeing this thread today at work, I called the LHS and told them to hold a 40 & 60 for me. I love ultra sticks. I'll just have stock a couple at home. :-)

RE: Sticks

A friend had one back 6 years ago. He had a Makita 75cc engine on it. Plenty of power but it handled the engine fine.

He made his from the picture in the magazine. Had a hard time getting everything to add up. Finally he determined that they changed the aspect ratio of the plans slightly in the magazine.

He used plywood door skins for the 1/8" ply

RE: Sticks

Looking forward to seeing how it handles in the air.
Talk about a lot of bang for the buck, I got less than $425 bucks in the whole setup ready to fly, and it's IMAA legal too boot.

RE: Sticks

There has been quite a bit of activity about the Stiks in this thread and many others. Ihave part of a Midwest Das Lil Stik and the Midwest build plan that came with it but all wing parts missing. Can someone tell me where scratch building plans can be purchased for this plane. It might also be beneficial to others that run across this thread to know what plans are available for various Stik;'s and where they are available. I know that Dave Fritzke has the littlest Stik on his web site at
http://my.pclink.com/~dfritzke/
and
http://my.pclink.com/~dfritzke/lastick.pdf
granted this is a .010 powered stick on Fritzke's web site but am sure there are many others. Which Stik's appeared as RCM plans and what issues did they appear in?

Thank you.
