Eflite 450 brushless motor question
I'm using an Eflite 450 with my new Alpha Sport 450.
The 450 accelerates properly from zero throttle to 50% throttle. From then on, there is no increase in rpm.
Has anyone encountered this problem? If so, how do I correct it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Eflite 450 brushless motor question
Other ESCs may be a bit different but these are the directions for a Mag 8:
On some Tower Pro Mag 8 ESCs, you will hear a continuous rapid beeping the first time that you hook them up, and the motor will not respond to the throttle control of your transmitter. The manual states that you must set the throttle range, but it is not clear on how to do that.
Setting the throttle range is very easy to do with your transmitter:
1. Connect the ESC to a motor and receiver. DO NOT connect a battery yet.
2. Turn on your transmitter. Move the throttle stick to the full power position (all the way up).
3. Connect the ESC to a battery. You will hear a tone and two beeps. Immediately after the two beeps, move the throttle stick to the off position.
4. Disconnect the battery from the ESC. Now the ESC is ready to use with your transmitter.

I'm using an Eflite 40 amp ESC.
I will look into setting throttle range.
I do fly several other planes and I don't have any problems with the throttle range.
Thanks for the advise

OK, I will try this this afternoon when I go to the field. I will let you know if this solves the problem.
Thanks for the advise.

Something else if that doesn't work for you.
Put a watt meter on it. You may just have a weak pack, that can only sustain the amp load to a point. After that point it has nothing more to give and the motor won't spin any faster.

I don't think it's a weak pack because it does the same thing with several other packs.
I'm going to check the rpm's and compare them to specs. Perhaps it reaches maximum rpm at 1/2 throttle (?).
Jmir
PS - It's been a long time since Parkzone's Cub, hasn't it? I remember many of your postings as I was learning how to fly.

Long long time. LOL!
Hmm, something else I just thought of. What prop are you using? Put a watt meter on it. It could be the prop is too large and that's all the motor can do spinning it.
Only other thing I can think of is to check the trim/sub trim/end point adjustments on the tx. Maybe, one of them is not set correctly and it's limiting the throttle amounts.

Ok went and did some digging. You should be fine with your set up,
If the tx checks out, go back to the esc.
I've had a couple of those E-Flite 40's that just wouldn't work right, and just like you are experiencing, won't wind the motor up to full speed.
I had to play with the throttle trim to get em to work. Usually in the upper end. It's like they don't recognize actual WOT and simply shut down beyond half throttle.
Heck I have a pair in my airliner that will only arm if the tx throttle is held at WOT when the packs are installed. I get the beeps, then have to move the throttle back to off and then the esc's will arm. Do it any other way And they will not arm at all.

Above is exactly the case with my set up. I have to set throttle at WOT when packs are installed or the motor will not engage at all even though servos work OK. Weird!
