Max rpm on Mega
Just curious to know whats the highest number of cells anyone has used on their brushless motor on a direct drive basis. I am tempted to use a twelve cell pack for my Mega 16/15/3 and 5x5 prop, would this be too much for the motor? Thier website says the motor can take 16 cells at maximum, but doesn't clarify if thats on direct drive or geared. Hope you guys can advice me on this. Thanks

RE: Max rpm on Mega
Actually, it doesn't matter. What matters is the amount of current you're drawing. That motor is limited to 25 Amps, IIRC. If you can find the right size prop, or prop/gearbox combo that will keep the current under 25 Amps on 12 cells, there's no reason you can't use it.
In direct drive, the prop's going to be pretty small, like a 3.5" or 4".
EDIT:
Let me correct myself. It DOES matter, if you're thinking about exceeding the recommended maximum cell count. All motors have an RPM limit at which they begin to fly apart. That RPM is their Kv, or RPM/Volt rating, times the maximum cell count. IIRC, the Mega 16/15s start to disintegrate at 30,000RPM.
