BIG MPJet outrunner/MEC superbox 2:1,16x12!
Hey all, I had a wild idea today----put the MPJet ac28/20-7 outrunner in a MEC superbox using a 2:1 ratio and an APCE 16x12 prop. The idea was to see if the motor could pull such a large dia. prop?As luck would have it the motor bolted to the box perfectly with no modifications!!!The spur gear fit perfectly also! I fabricated a mount from some Al. angle stock from the local hardware store & came up with this(see pic).I then hooked a CC Phoenix 45 esc. to an Apogee 4-s2p 1570(3140)pack & here's what the watt meter said:
WOT=33.3A,12.5v,435W. Next,I bolted a 15x10 on and here are the results:WOT=27.4A,13.7v,382W.
Keep in mind that the max amps (10-30 secs.=40A)so this test was well under the motor's potential! I'll be trying larger dia.props later. But I think you can see the possibilities here! The best part is the cost---$63 for the motor& about $47=$110 for the motor+box combo! By the way,up until now I was using the motor on a 4a4#plane with a 14x7prop and had good aerobatic performance,but no unlimited verticle--direct-drive on 3-s LiPo and drawing a little over 36A.

RE: BIG MPJet outrunner/MEC superbox 2:1,16x12!
I forgot to mention,the plane on the car is the 4#er on direct-drive---95% foam construction w/5% balsa& lite-ply.
Specs: 60" span,57"length,65.4oz.,760 sq.in.area,12.4 oz.per sq. ft!
This thing flies great,and you wouln never guess it has a "flat-plate"airfoil(full symetrical w/rounded L.E.)10mm thick. Sorta like a giant Shockie-slows down like one too. Can't wait to fly it with the gear drive & larger props!
