Default Pico Stick with EPS-100C

This question is broken off from my other forum "Slow Stick Engine Upgrade"...

Basic question...will 8 cell, 9.6v 730aMH batteries burn up my EPS-100C motor? I have a ISC-300 speed controller and turn 1390 props.

Also would 1047 props be better or worse with the 100C motor?

The 8-cell battery in and of itself won't burn up the motor, but the combination of voltage and Amps could. 13x9 sounds a little too big for that setup, unless you've got a high gear ratio.

Any reduction in prop size will bring a reduction in available power. That's how motors work. However, if you're overloading the motor with the bigger prop, going with a smaller prop will give you more USABLE power, better efficiency, less losses through heat, longer flight times...

Thanks for the reply Matt, I did drop off the 1390 prop and went back to my 1047....that 1390 was way to much prop! And I also went back down to my 7 cell 370aMh...got about 15 minutes out of her.

UPDATE:

Tried to fly my Pico Stick with the new EPS-100C...just for info, way to heavy!!! Won't fly. Putting my IPS system back and or going to buy a twin IPS for a little more power. It was flying fine before I messed with it and just like they say...

IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT.

Lesson Learned.

Just curious, how much heavier was the upgrade?

The EPS100 has double torque then the IPS motor but spinning at almost half the rpm, using 1047 will not yield the power, depening on the gear ratio, if its a A gearbox, try a 1080, it will fly great.

Oh, btw, if you have already had bought the 1390 and have no use for it, use a sissors to cut it down to 10 inch, balance the prop and you can reuse it, 1090...just some thoughts...

Time, it was way heavy...didn't actually weigh it but you could sure tell, wouldn't even lift off the ground! The motor weight 56g, didn't actually think it was that much wieght but looks like just a little bit mattered a lot.

Airborne, the 100C was geared D 6-6:1 but I don't think the prop mattered...it was just to heavy. I like the tip of cutting down the 1390 props though! Good tip.

I put the IPS system back in and flew it yesterday, doesn't seem to be flying like she used too. Bummed out, the Pico Stick is a great little bird. No more upgrades for her, broke the engine mount when I pulled the 100C out and lost about an inch of wood. Had to cut down the cowl just to get the IPS to fit again. []
