Default Best Brushless for Slow Stick

I am trying to price brushless motors and ECS for my SS. I have looked at the Hacker A20L for it. What would be a good recomendation for a SS? Also what would be a good ECS? I am going to still use nickel metal batteries for the time.

Thanks
Mark

An Eflite Park 370-4100 or Himaxx 2015-4100 will bolt right in in place of the stock motor, giving you a PHENOMENAL performance boost with the same batteries you have. You can also upgrade to a 10-cell NiMH pack or 3S LiPoly, and really get a crazy increase in power.

Would a Castle Creations Phoenix 25 be a good choisein ESC? Also with the Himaxx motor need an adpater to mate the motor to my stock GWS gear box? Would you prefer the 2015-5400 or the 2025-5300 motor. Sorry for the questions I am new to the brushless.

Iflew my SS w/ a Himaxx 2015-4100 using the Himaxx gearbox at 6:1 w/ CC Phoenix 25. If you want to use the GWS box you will need to buy the Himaxx adapter , they are only a few bucks. The Himaxx gearbox are around 25.00 and there are a couple others for the GWS conversion.
I found my SS way overpowered with the above power system. Great fun though. I even flew it with a TP 3S Lipo.
Good luck with yours. Jollyroger

Either motor the Himaxx 2015-4100 or the E-flight Park 370-4100 are similar in both performance and price. The park 400 comes with the adapter and motor to ESC plugs, probably a $10 to $12 cost saveings. Either one are excellent motors for the $.
The Phonix 25 is a good choice. You would be OK with the Phonix 10 also, but you may want the 25 for flexability of later projects[8D]? In any case the little extra weight of the 25 over the 10 certainly wont bother the Slow Stick.

Yeah I am going to get the Himaxx 2015-4100 combo with the gearbox. I wish that this site offered the combo with the CC Phoenix 25. http://www.espritmodel.com/good_deal...xx_phoenix.htm

OK my Himaxx 2015-4100 with gear box will be here tomorrow. My question is should I still use the 11x8 prop with this combo. Right now I will be running it with the CC Phoenix 25 and a 7 cell NiMH battery pack. One other question is the gear box comes with these gear ratio combos. Three Gear ratios included, 6.6:1 / 5.3:1 / 4.4:1. Should I go with the 6.6:1 ratio?

Thanks
Mark

Mark,

I am currently running a Himax 2025-5300 with a 2s lipo.
The 11x8 works fine with the 6:1 gearing.

Mark,

I"m not one hundred percent sure on that one since i havn't tried hovering yet.
But if you put a 3s lipo on there with a 12x6 prop. I'd bet twenty bucks that you could.

I know that my 2025-5300 is more powerful that your 2015 but the 2025 is way way overkill.
So yeah you'll prob be able to do it.

You might even be able to do it with a 8.4 volt and the 11x8 depending if your batt can handle the amps the brushless motor is going to pull with an 11x8 prop.

I'm using a 7.4 volt lipo and the 11x8 prop and i'm pulling 15 amps.

Well I made an effort to go flyng this weekend. There was a little wind when we first got out there. I was trying to make my first flight with the 2015-4100 Himaxx. Just as I hand launched her and the wind picked up. I was able to get about 2 min of flight time before I had to land it before the wind picked up even more. Well after 3 flights in between the wind dying down I ended up bringing the SS in to hot. Hell of a tail wind. Landed and then flipped over and breaking the rudder. I was a little disapointed with the 2015-4200. I was expecting to have a bit more power. Maybe it was the conditions I was flying in but the winds died down to about 5-6 mph when I flew. I fixed the rudder and took it out into the garage to see with the 11x8 with a 7 cell nicd on it and tried to see if it had enought power to hover. I was holding it just behind the wing so it wouldn't smack the ceailing. No such luck not enought power. I might try a 12x6 to see if thaqt helps.

I use a JustGoFly.com 400F 2250kv on my Slow Stick it has Great power. The motor and ECS was only around $85 and the motor is rated@ 15amps the ESC 20/25amps.

It flys good on windy days. I have flew when the wind sock at the field was just about straight out. On 3 cells this little outrunner screams .

Here is a short video of how well it takes off on a windy day. You can notice how the wind blows it back a bit into vertical but the motor still pulls out fine.
You can hear the wind on the video near the end.

And if you want even more power there is a 400DF 3000kv motor

Check out how well it pulls around a 25oz plane. And notice how the plane torques to the right on take off
from the motors power.

Mark>>> Thanks for the kind words....
Funny thing is I have just been flying just over 3 months..... But I do hope to get better.

Maybe my next video can show how well they fly around and not just the take off.

on my ss i noticed that even adding much more power, the plane just didnt get any faster, i think that due to the design of the wing, it just doesnt not have the ability to go fast. i think thats why you were disapointed with the motor. put that motor on a plane with a thin high speed designed wing and you will see a big diff. have fun

Your right I noticed the same thing, took mine and built a flat bottomed balsa wing 46" wing span, same deheidral with the same cord so it fits the saddle about the same, also shimmed the trailing edge so it has about the same angle of attack as the tail.
Flies faster, penetrates wind alot better but still floats on deadstick landing.
