not enough revs
I have a 1050mah battery hooked up to a novatech 25amp speed controller and a elcheapo speed 400 motor and 5x5 prop. Transmitter and receiver are JR. This setup worked well for about 20 flights with heaps of power and the ability to put the plane anywhere I wanted it to go. Then one day I noticed that the motor wasn't revving enough and had trouble getting into the air.
Now when I increase the throttle, the motor will increase in revs until the throttle lever is at about 40%, then the motor stays at the same revs for the remainder of the throttle input up to 100%. There is not enough power to stay in the air.
I have replaced motors, speed controllers and props, and it makes no difference.
The instructions that came with the speed controller are not much help. They have a very bad translation from chinese to english and only add confusion to the subject.
Does anyone have any idea what's going on here??

RE: not enough revs
Well, it's probably not the ESC. The ESC does nothing to limit current. It's just an on-off switch that turns on and off really really fast to simulate partial throttle.
I suspect that your battery is headed down the tubes. It might have a dead cell or may have been overstressed at some point during its short career...

RE: not enough revs
Thanks for the reply Matt. You were right - I charged up an old 1100mah Nicd and hooked it up and it worked as it should. I didn't think the battery was the problem because it was taking a full charge every time I put it on the charger. Will buy a new battery this week - might be an opportune time to go to Lipos.
