speed 600 what sise prop
I have a J3 cub 54" wp with a speed 600 7-cell Ni-mh 1000 ah 8.4 for it,any idea what size prop I should use ?
also would it be better with direct drive or geared ?

Direct drive, a 7x4 or 8x4 is what you're going to be limited to.
But, not with that battery. No way that battery will hold up to the 25 to 30 Amps your motor is going to draw. You need a full Sub C cell like the CP2400 NiCd or GP3300 NiMH.
A geared setup would definitely be more efficient. That Cub is not a fast plane, so putting more of the battery's power toward thrust rather than speed, by spinning a larger prop at a lower RPM, would be beneficial. 3:1 ratio and a 12x8 prop is pretty much the standard for a stock 600.
