Default How many magnets do i need to use?

I am in the process of building a custom brushless outrunner motor. it has 24 stator teeth, and i am confuzed as to how many magnets i should use. i thought i had it down at 32, but then i realized that 12 pole stators had 14 magnets not 18, so there does not seem to be any pattern. a 9 pole has 12, a 12 pole has 14, and i am not sure. is it the less magnets the hotter the motor? does it have to be in certain divisions in order to work? what's the formula here?
Cheers,
Clam

Hey Clam, I like the quotes in your message. The second one should read Josef Stalin and George W. Bush.
