Default removing switch from esc

I have a on/off switch on my esc I want to remove. Do I just cut the red/black wires and solder them together?

cheers

Should be no problem, but you should provide a convenient way to disable the system. I use a heavy duty switch in the main power line between the battery and ESC. On ESCs that have a switch I just leave the switch on and tucked somewhere inside the plane.

Thanks for the reply Red,

I was wondering why some escs have them and not others? Why not just disconnect the battery? It is a 12A esc, on a 3D profile. Seemed a good and easy way to save weight.

What link of heavy duty switch do you use?

I use a double pole (wired in parallel) miniature toggle switch- each pole rated for 6A DC. They measure about 1/2" square so I guess you would not call them "heavy duty" in that sense. Remember this is the switching capability and we are not switching high currents (or shouldn't be anyway). The actual current they will carry is much higher than the rated switching current. I am regularly drawing 40 amps through these switches and have been doing so for a couple of years, flying 3 days a week

So the battery plugs into the switch and then from the switch to the esc? how is the switch mounted to the plane? Also do you have any pictures of the switch and how it is mounted. Thanks Dennis.

Yes, battery red lead to switch then to red on ESC. Black direct from battery to black on ESC via connector you use between them.

Ok Thanks Red, I see how you mounted the switch on your plane, what would you suggest on a foam plane. I am currently just connecting the battery straight to the esc, with deans connectors. Have to be very careful of the throttle, so i dont cut a finger or something. Thanks Dennis.

Just put a 1/32 plywood plate each side of your foamy to mount the switch. You might have to hollow out a bit of the foam in order to get the switch to reach through. I think the switch has about 1/4" of barrel to work with.
