Default can this brushless be direct drive?

Im gonna put a bl400-15t from a PZ typhoon 3d on a homegrown foam plane, something simillar to this:
http://www.parkjets.com/X-41.html

I dont have the original gear drive, so I thought about making it a direct drive pusher but was told thats not possible. Then I was told it was...so now Id like some third party input. I plan to use a 3s 1300mah 11.1v lipo, 20a esc.

Any thoughts appreciated, thanks

Default RE: can this brushless be direct drive?

Just FYI - I don't know exactly which motor you have but it is obviously 20mm 4200Kv, so here is a Feigao which is close in specs. I imagine your motor is good for perhaps 15A-18A max (maybe 150W or so)... but here is what would happen if even if you use the smallest possible APC prop (4.1x4.1):

Motor: Feigao 130S 22T (1308422S); 4255rpm/V; 0.8A no-load; 0.106 Ohms.
Battery: Thunder Power TP2100 (ProLite) (15C); 3 series x 2 parallel cells; 2100mAh @ 3.7V; 0.018 Ohms/cell.
Speed Control: Castle Creations Phoenix 35; 0.0045 Ohms; High rate.
Drive System: 4.1x4.1 (Pconst=1.47; Tconst=0.95) direct drive.
Airframe: Anything you want.

Motor Amps = 27.2
Motor Volts = 10.2
Input (W) = 279.0
Prop RPM = 31295
Thrust (oz) = 15.0
PSpd (mph) = 121.5
