Default HPI Rs4 RC Car..

Hi all..

I have an HPI Rs4 Car with a HPI T3 Engine that im sick of, I've bought it last month and i hate it..
I love my car but i want to change my engine

Ive checked online and im lost on finding the right one ALSO i need help on what happens to my gears and clutch bell and what changes when i get a new engine

Eg..

when i get a new engine

do i have to buy a new gear for the transmission (spur gear)
do i need to buy a new clutch / clutch bell all that???

or are they supposed to work on any engine??

some people have talked about the 12TZ Motor that it works well..

What im looking for is

-a reliable engine that i dont need to buy parts for every now and then
-doesnt need tuning every time
-easy to tune
-ive had lots RC cars for the last 8 years with not much issues but this t3 engine is a NO NO

so yea

can someone please help me on the right direction

I need a good engine thats reliable and affordable anything under $250 US
and i need to know what comes next after choosing the right engine do i need to buy clutch bell and clutch and gears (of the same as the engines brand ) or am i thinking wrong or do i use my current ones also what about the engine mount

I also have something else
i have owned a NITRO traxxas rustler for years and I LOVVVE it no issue is a traxxas rustler 2.5 engine good on my 1/10 Rs4 nitro car? will it fit will it work? (im just inlove with the traxxas rustler engine 2.5 and 3.3 engine and would love it if i could fit it on)
Traxxas rustler nitro 2.5 or 3.3 engines i love them they are so reliable i need to know if they are good and if they will fit on this car , or if im so wrong to put it on my current Rs4 HPI 1/10 car

also another question. some people say things about adding more teeth to their clutch bell to slow down their car can someone please explain this ??

Im looking here on ebay i see a car that has my car but a set up that has an OS engine .. but i need an advice from the pros before i act and do similar project
here is the link:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/HPI-Rs4-with...item20ea30d12f
i dont want that engine in that ebay car but i want to change the set up im showing you an example but the car is the same exact one but i currently have the HPI T3 Engine

Remember im not looking for Power to race i dont mind anything thats 45-55 MPH if its more i dont mind but just dont want to spend heaps of money

Can some one please guide me

Alright so on the topic of changine the engine

Your car has a HPI T3 which is:
- .18
- rotary carburetor
- small block
- classic crank
- onroad
- side slot exhaust port

To get a new engine and replace it easily you will need to find an engine that will have same block, exhaust port, crank, carb otherwise you will need to modify.

I have my Tamiya TGS which runs at the moment on Sh .18 (search it) and I am not sure (do your research) but its very likely that it will fit your car.
Its an alright engine, you get what you pay for. Its a replacement for the original engine and there is not much I can say, it runs ok, nothing special.

You just need to watch out or send me a pic of your flywheel, some classic cranks have a small slot at the base of the crank to fit and lock the flywheel, some have just round where you fit a cone over, thats pretty important.

There is O.S. 18 CV-RX that should fit directly onto your car, research that engine.

what happens to my gears and clutch bell and what changes when i get a new engine?

Simply? Nothing.
New engine will not influence any of the gearing on your car (if you get the right engine of course).
Once you get an engine, you need to look at the maximum rpm that the engine will produce, since this is going to determine what your maximum speed will be.

do i have to buy a new gear for the transmission (spur gear)
do i need to buy a new clutch / clutch bell all that???

You dont have to do any of that, I am not a RS4 specialist but I would not recommend to mess around with the gearing mesh. Changing the gearing will either put more stress on the engine (giving more max speed) or will reduce your max speed (less stress on engine). Unless youre a specialist at gearing, do not change the bell and spur gear.

are they supposed to work on any engine??

Exactly!

About O.S. 12TZ
Unless the crank is short classic, it should work well.
The only bad part is that it has a circular exhaust port at the back which means you will need to buy a new header and/or muffler and figgure out how to fit it.
I am sure there are tutorials how to do it, just a small heads up.

Will Traxxas TRX 2.5 fit your engine?

No.
Its has a SG crank, slide carb, rear exhaust port, offroad engine overall. You would have problems installing it because of the crank difference, performance drop due to the offroad nature of the engine, and overall fitting the muffler and slide carb.

Let me explain the Onroad vs Offroad engine aspect.
Offroad engines have much more low rpm torque, different power curve when it comes to mid and top rpm, usually less of top rpm which means less top speed.
Onroad engine have less bottom torque but have more rpm when it comes to higher range, giving you more top speed.

From my experience Traxxas engines are crap and are a pain to tune, so I guess its me being unlucky or you being lucky haha.

some people say things about adding more teeth to their clutch bell to slow down their car can someone please explain this ??

Adding more teeth to the clutch bell will result in gearing up.
You will get more top speed but reduce the acceleration.
You will also put more stress on the motor which will results in all kinds of problems like overheating, excessive wear etc.
When putting more teeth to clutch gear/ reducing teeth on your spur gear (known as gearing up), you need to watch out your engine mesh, because both gears are going to be close, if you dont adjust it there will be more wear and stress on parts.
Gearing down has a vise versa effect. Less stress, less top speed, also watch your gear mesh.

The car from eBay link has a O.S 18TZ with random fitted header, muffler and Motor Saver air filter. You can have that too but to reduce cost and effort I would stay with O.S. 18 CV-RX or Sh .18
