ok so you are saying it is only to stop dirt from hitting it. I want to know if you are saying this becuase the lable of the product says "dust boot" or are you saying this becuase you have actually ran an engine with a torn or missing boot which did not cause an air leak.

For 3.bux just replace it, or you could get a carb. kit that comes with the boot and seals for a few bucks more. for a temp .fix get some rubber sealer and put it on the tear, and ya I've been down that road, RED

thanks red, I already bought one, its just on the way with a few other things. I just wanted to know if I could run it now without having problems. but its better to play it safe and just wait the extra couple of days. It has about 4 HUGE tears it it, but is still held together and you cant even tell it has tears unless you stretch it out.

On one of my pullers I run a ducted fan engine with a slider carb (OPS) The carb doesn't have a dust cover (it's not designed to have one, because it would normally be mounted inside the airplane's fuselage) I have to check and clean it after each pull to prevent the carb from binding, but it works just fine.

no its not on my TRX 2.5 engine its on my Force .25, the tears are from accidental poking when trying to adjust the carb very quickly without looking - careless mistake. I just have shown you the 2.5 boot because that was the first thing that showed up when I searched for boot. well micropuller, that is very convincing, if it doesnt have one it should be the same way on my engine - not actually sealing the slide but just stopping the dust (which could cause sticking as you mentioned already)

I have had my T-Maxx 2.5 for about two years now and it has been loads of fun. My buggy with the Force .25 engine is more racy and a lot faster, but the T-Maxx is much, much more fun for jumping and doing stunts.
oh and thanks for the help both of you: Micropuller and redheat8
