It kinda sounds like vapor lock. Is the engine over heating at all. If so richen the needles up or cut holes in the body of the truck to get air to the heat sink so the engine may run at a cooler temp and that should get rid of the vapor lock.

all though my yz 85 is not a rc car, but i race moto cross and when i would get my yz 85s engine up to temp. it would quit. so i got it rebuild and honed the piston out and stuff. give it a try on your.18.
