RE: RC Car Actions "How to port a Nitro Engine"
I'm looking for some cheap used enignes, that have under 3 gallons on them to mod, so for all I have done is 3-4 port engines, I have my 5-port 21 I'm gona try, but I'm really looking for a used axial 28 and try modding that.

can you explaint to me how to modify the crank shafT???

I'm not good at explainning stuff, so thats why I would not make a good teacher. but SAVAGEJIM, lsurber, and hpi apollo really helped me with the knowledge, and supertib also helped me out. so those guys and readding this thread is where I got all my info from.
thats about the best I can do on explaining it.
EDIT: on the button, its really not (well IMO) its not worth doing because you're cutting down your compression ratio. I can't wait to try out the SPI port and see how it will run.

Dont give up, it takes time to know what and where to cut. After much practice, you will see your works to fruition.
As for mods, yes, carbide cutters are the best and sanding drums to rounds the lower skirts of the sleeve works also work like a charm.

Cool thanks. I will have to give it a try nothing eles I'll have to get a new sleeve kit lol.

I do not know what a pircco .28 crank looks like, can you post a pic? from that, I can get an idea as to what mods could help it.
For the crank measurements, rea this thread and measure it up. thsn post the dimensions. I can help you figure out to increase the indution timng.

RE: RC Car Actions "How to port a Nitro Engine"
ok so what is the easyest tool to use for porting the p&s im have a new one for my sts 30 and im going to do it myself and i want it to have as much power as possible and still be reliable and last for at least 6 gallons. the current p&s is one abmods did and its a stage 2 mod and i want more power but dont want to spend the money to send it to someone?

Adam (ABmods) dose a great job, and I don't think your going to get more power from one you did yourself than the one he did, or less you really really know what you're doing, and you have to know what port timing, guide ports, flow channels for full power.
I really don't see how anyone could want more power, the STS 30 stock is fast and then a modded stage 2 ABmoded one has got to be realy fast. if you don't know port timing then you would probaby be better off get Adam to do the stage 3 mod on it.

RE: RC Car Actions "How to port a Nitro Engine"
I just did one of my STS .30's and there really isn't much you can or need to do...the sleeve is so thin that IMO any guide channels etc. would be so shallow as to be of little effect...and you risk doing more harm than good.
When you remove material from a certain area, that changes the way the sleeve expands and contracts when the temperatures change...so there is an increased chance of distortion...and my point is, that the STS .30's sleeve being so thin, it wouldn't take much material removal to make it dangerously thin and prone to distorting and causing a power loss rather than a gain.
The above statement is conjecture on my part...but it's based on facts that I have read about on other engines.
All I did was radius the lower lip of the ports...de-burr the inner edges with a polishing point, and make sure there was no "swarf".

a Picco P7 EVO 2 has a much nicer built crank then a STS, and it fits right in...... look for a P7 EVO 2/STS 30 hybrid project soon....

RE: RC Car Actions "How to port a Nitro Engine"
so you really think if i want the most power send it to ab mods and have him do a stage 3 i still think i could do it myself if i mess up it is what it is i know that so explain how i would would do it i want to have the most power possible. just tell me let me worry about whether its faster or not better or worse.

Other run of the mill engines do not have such a feature; only the higher doller engines use this technique. This goes to show taht you will definitely get the a god return fo this engine, even if it might cost more.
