Engine Pull Cord

I broke my pull cord this weekend while starting my buggy.....I know I can look up the part number and just replace it, but has anyone had to replace one before that can tell me if its going to be a pain or if it should be fairly easy. I mean a pain like.......having to pull the motor. Also from what I have read you can buy a conversion kit for it to be able to start it with a drill......do these last and work well compared to the pull cord? Thanks in advance for any help!

if you consider taking the engine outta the car a pain then you aer in for some real pain alter one, pull starts are incredibly tricky to fix, they test your patience better han anything else that you can imagine, you can buy a roto start but its just anothe thing to lug around and if you forget to charge the batteries you wont be able to start your engine, just buy another pull start

I agree with apolloo, easy start is a pain in the butt to much extra garbage to lug around. Get a new pull start, it's easy to replace and you haven't got any extras to lug around.

Man......I was so hoping that you guys would say "sure go for the Ezy Start"(me being lazy). Oh well I guess I will just replace the pull start, its cheaper anyway. I do see the "extra" in hauling the extra batteries and starter, but outside of that is it reliable at all? Is that why you guys suggest the pull start only? I thought most on here would say get the easy start because of the quickness in starting or the easy-ness. Thanks for the help guys!

Well your keys words are "if you are good".......I am new to this hobby, and that in itself speaks for itself. It seems to take me forever to get it running. I am not sure why, but I usually takes 10-15. Sometimes its more of a pain in *****. Once its running its a ton of fun, I bought a nitro buggy (1/8) and a 4x4 truck (1/10) for my son so its fun to do together!

well then this question is being begged to be asked, what is your proccess to get your car started, what are you doing up to the point that it finally starts?

Well here is what I am doing to get my car started........I am sure I will catch some hell...but remember I know nothing about this hobby and I am learning as I go. I am first putting gas in the tank, then a couple of drops in the carb, install the glow ignitor and let sit for a couple of seconds and then I begin my process of pull the cord! So tell me what I am doing wrong. Now I assummed since this car was RTR then the needle would be somewhat adjusted, I thought that once it was started I might have to fine tune, but for the most part in would be tuned. I have read where people say if your glow plug isn't glowing then it isn't working good. Is that literal? You should see your plug red/orange?

ok well you need to have the engine properly broken in with the heat cycle method, fduring break in you will need to change the plug at least once ebcause break in eats up plugs and makes engines hard to start, now, the needle settings from the factory are usually wayyyyyy off, look up a tuning guide, here is a good one http://www.*********.org/cars_eng-tuning.htm and read it all, now once that is done, get a rechargable glow igniter, if you do not have one, get one, alkaline chargers really suck and make engines hard to start, once you have that fully charged then make sure your glow plug glows erally brightly, a dull glow doesnt get it, now, fill the tank up, and use the primer button on the tank to prime the engine, if your tank does not have a primer, take the pressure line from the pipe and blow into it, i usually have the line off of the carb too and i wait til the fuel comes out then i pinch it and put it on the carb and its usually perfectly primed, now you pull the pull start cord, quick pulls no more than 8 inches

As far as replacing the pull starter, DO NOT TRY TO REPAIR IT. (THE SPRING WILL TEST YOUR PATIENCE). Replace the whole assembly. It is usually cheap ($15), and only a few screws to play with. When removing the bad starter, notice the position of the one way bearing, as it must be replaced the same way. The engine does have to be removed, however. Use blue locktite when putting the screws back in, so vibration will not loosen them.
Once you get your engine properly tuned, try this trick when starting: Adjust the throttle (increase) the minimum setting on the TRANSMITTER (not the throttle linkage) about 20 percent above idle. Pullstart the engine. When the engine starts it will run at higher than normal RPM. Now reduce the setting to the original idle position. Works great. Good Luck!.

I plan on switching my Megatech cars to the EZ-start Rapid fire system. Can anyone tell me what modifications are needed to fit the system in both Afterburner and Darkthunder? I recently injured my arm, wont be pulling nothing for a while...

yfz go see your lhs he or she maybe able to fix the pull start for you at no charge mine does for everyone (fix pull starts) just pay him back in buy some bling bling my 2 cents lol
