Bottom end can be used to describe the rod, crank, piston, block as well as peformance at low rpm. When they say an engine has no bottom end it means it is weak on torque at low rpms.

Top end usually refers to the button and heat sink. It is also used to describe high rpm peformance. No top end means it will not carry many rpms.

Is that what you were refering to??
