A hot plug should be fine, but try and cut a hole in the windshield if there already isnt one. Also you could have an air leak depending on how hot it really gets. Where are the temps at when you say you have a hard time keeping it cool. BUt a .12 plug is the same thing as a .15 or a .18 plug. They use the same plug for those engine sizes, so a cooler plug might work if your getting pre-detonation. But if your not then that hot plug will do just fine. I use hot plugs with 20% O'Donell all the time, it's not a big deal.
Also try richening it up a little, you may just be running lean. Run it with the body off and see if you still get the same temps, and if so then richen it up. If the temps still dont go down then you might have an air leak.

RE: jammin to hot
ive sealed the engine up and I do have a hole in the windshield and i got it runnin pretty rich at track with body on ran about 270-280
also ordered a cold and medium plug ill try the medium first the guy at my lhs told me to try the side winder fuel instead of O'donel.. says should keep it down about 10 degrese?

plug temp and fuel are not your problem..... I run OD fuel and the exact same plug your running !......your either tuned poor or your temp gun is reading wrong.....

I never had any problems with O'Donell running hot. Infact the temp difference between the two fuels for me wasnt a huge difference at all. Not even 10 degree's.

I have seen people ruin their motors based off the information from a way out of calibration gun......... How far out was your Duratrash ?
Also we have found pretty much every brand will go out of calibration at some point or another.

The drawbacks to these industrial grade temp guns i that they are expnsive, at least $100 or so. Also, dont expect to get an accurte reading while standing up and pointing at the plug 3ft down. you will still have to hold is close to the engine when taking the reading.

RE: jammin to hot
atleast the duratrax has the self calibration, i use it on 77 for anodized aluminum. comes set at 100... goes from 1-100 so that could make a HUGE difference in temp...
