New to the site, but not new to rc, just a little lost on this one.

I have a Yokomo GT4 with the RX18RE, and it hasnt started for some time now, not even the local hobby shop techs were able to get it to start easily..even with a new piston/sleeve/backplate.

my question is what other engine options are there for the GT4 that have the same output shaft?

pull starts are not a must, but it must have a rear exhaust port, not side.

I had thought mabey the traxxas 2.5 with the long shaft but not sure. I would prefer the Traxxas engine, but just want to know what my options are shaft wise and if the stock clutch assembly and gears would work with any other engine and what shafts are needed.

i really hope i made some sense here, but i need to know as soon as possible.

ok let me revise my question, mabey that will clear up my question.

how hard would it be to swap the Traxxas 2.5 engine on to my Yokomo GT4 using the original clutch/flywheel/gears?

Are the shafts similar in any way? and would i have to use the Traxxas motor mounts to modify my chassis?

I know some modification would need to be done, but want to be sure I can use the Yokomo parts on the Traxxas engine.

30 views, and not one person can tell me if the Yokomo flywheel.clutch.gear assembly would work on the Traxxas 2.5 engine/output shaft??

Well the TRX 2.5 is a small block, so if your RC accepts small blocks, it should fit.

I don't see why you would want a TRX on there, though.

cause i have never had a problem with the trx, and i can get them really chaep...i know they arent the best, but oh well

the factory yokomo engine is in place, but its crapped on me to many times.

just need to know if the flywheel and everything from the yokomo engine is compatible, or what do i need to do to make it work

You should be able to get the flywheel on. I've used a lot of engines with the same flywheel and collet, and it works fine. I dunno, I'm a big block guy, I've never used small blocks.

cause when i compared the crankshafts the output where the flywheel goes is a little different

ok, did some more searching, and what i have found so far is that the 4Tec 2.5 2speed flywheel, clutch, and clutch bell are almost identical to the yokomo..

the gears are the same. they thread onto the clutch bell, same specs, and same id...

so i'm starting to think that i can easily swap the TRX engine on to the yokomo, and if all else fails, use the flywheel, clutch and clutch bell for the Traxxas and just go from there.

I just want some more opinions on it..

in less than a week the 2.5R thats been modified will be on my Yokomo..

it was ordered today, and will see how everything fits once it arrives..if it all just bolts right together, it will be re-geared, and see how fast i can get it in the top end
