Default traxxas rustler mxt15

just got into nitro rc cars, and i picked up a traxxas rustler nitro with a upgraded motor. it has the mxt15 motor with the easy start. I cant get it to start at all, it has spark and compression, and i can kindof smell gas after a while of constanly trying to get it to start. In all it hasnt been ran in 2 years but i put new gas in it. any ideas?

Unless the compression is really low It should at least start. Usually the engine will also start even if the needles are set wrong.

Change the plug, medium range hot OS 8 or Mccoy 8, your local hobby shop can supply that. Change the fuel lines, its' been sitting too long. When you change the plug note if it is full of crude.

I assume your glow plug igniter is strong and good batteries in it.

Pull off the air cleaner and not if the carb slider has at least 2to 3 mm opening in it. It needs this to allow air to get in. Once you have done all this and it sparks to life then you can set the needle valves. If it still does not start than your compression may be real low. Try turning the engine over by hand using the flywheel. If it turns real easy try removing a shim from the head. Then try again.

Hope this helps.
