Looks really great! I'm curious, are the exhaust ports going to put too much heat on the leading edges of the wings and cause any issues? Foam and heat don't do well together

RE: Carden Extra 35% Turbo Prop finally done
Just got back from a static show where we ran the engine and set the parameters into the ECU. At 130,00 rpm, exhaust temp was 587 degrees. The leading edge gets warm but not enough to damaage the covering. I am going to trim the exhaust pipes to direct the heat more outward this evening and then head to Winimac tomorrow for the maiden. Thanks for the compliments...this one has produced more than it's share of problems....
Also, I had Gary Mueller make me a tank that sits under the wing tube on the cg. It holds 96 oz. plus a UAT of 4 oz. The Wren Turbine burns around 8 oz per minute at 130K. Funny thing, the turbine alone puts out around 10-12 pounds of thrust, but coupled to the gearbox, at max rpm...can produce up to 50 pounds of pull!!!!!!
Best regards,
Ron Ballard

I'm looking for someone to make me a custom fuel tank for my 3.3m Yak. Could you please pass any contact information for Gary Mueller. My 64oz B&B tank is too heavy for my liking.
Thanks
Mike
Thanks

What turns the propeller, the exhaust gas through an impeller or direct drive through a gearbox?
Is the gearbox oil filled to handle the speed or not?

RE: Carden Extra 35% Turbo Prop finally done
Well the first 3 flights are in the books. I traveled to Winimac Monday afternoon and with the help of Tim Redelman as my test pilot...perfect conditions resulted in perfect flights.
First flight was with ecu set at 135,000 rpm, plane flew well but lacked in speed, so
we landed and increased the rpm to 145,000. This resulted in a noticeable increase in performance, sooooooo, we landed again and increased the rpm 155,000.
Now the thing really woke up and started to groove. I called Wren this morning and they told me to set it to max rpm setting (160,000). The ecu will pull back the power automatically if rpm or heat parameters are exceeded.
The plane balances just a skosh nose heavy at the center of the wing tube, and Tim said it was the best flying 35% airplane he has ever flown. I suggested that I move the battery pack back to reduce the nose heavy condition and he said " leave it where it is....it's perfect right where it's at". So this morning I pulled out the plans and the cg setting is shown 1/2 inch forward or the tube, which makes perfect sense. For more advanced, radical cpapbilities, just slide the cg forward that 1/2 -3/4 inch. It flies more like a big pattern plane balanced in the center of the tube.
Hopefully some pics and video to be added after this weekend.
Fly safe,
rb

Ben,
Wish I had the expertise to download the video, all 3 landings and most of the maneuvers are in the vid. Can you download it????
I am now preparing to install an Eagle Tree telemetry system into the airframe , then I will know the egt and engine rpm...................
